We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Il Castello. There is something special about walking out the hotel door straight into the enchanting medieval laneways of Certaldo Alto, surrounded by centuries of history and Tuscan charm. The hotel itself is full of character, with charming decor, beautiful views over the town below, an excellent restaurant and a welcoming bar. But one of the real pleasures is having so many other wonderful restaurants and wine bars tucked away along the surrounding cobblestone streets, just waiting to be discovered. If you want to immerse yourself in the magic of a medieval Italian village, rather than simply visit one, Hotel Il Castello is a wonderful place to stay.
The only real downside to an otherwise perfect stay was the mattress. It was possibly the hardest mattress I’ve ever slept on, making a comfortable night’s sleep difficult. I wondered whether it had inadvertently been placed upside down, as the underside actually felt softer than the surface we slept on.

Location was awesome, super clean and well manage Alfred I believe who is the owner of the hotel and running the place does an excellent job. The hotel is very well staffed and they do a wonderful job, they are all so very friendly. We loved the restaurant, their food were delicious and excellent service. oh and Alfred is an awesome musician one night during our dinner he sat down and played the piano fantastic. Everything about this hotel far beyond 5 star service.

What a lovely hotel. Right in the centre of old Certaldo. We drove into a square nearby but had to move our car to a car park a few minutes walk away but that is no problem. The hotel is old with stairs and no lift so the manager kindly helped us carry our cases up the stairs. We didn't eat there in the evening but the menu looked great and the outside courtyard very pretty. Beds were very comfortable, we slept extremely well. Beautiful view from our room. Breakfast was extremely good, with coffee made to order. Dining room very interesting with lots of old jazz paraphernalia. We would definitely stay here again.
The lady who checked us in didn't ask me if I needed help with my bags going up the stairs and it wasn't until I started trying on my own that the manager kindly offered.
