The hosts were very welcoming and the room was lovely and clean. Very comfortable bed. Also it was nice to have fresh milk provided dairy. The location is brilliant for being able to get out and about without the car.
Breakfast was cooked to order from a pre order sheet filled in the night before and you said what time you would like your breakfast, so everything was freshly cooked, arrived at your table within minutes of sitting down and was of good quality.
The hosts had good knowledge of how to get to places of interest by public transport, and of events happening nearby.
The only slight things was the socket location, could do with 1 available either side of the bed but one double socket had the kettle plugged in and an extension that went to the other side of the bed. And the bathroom could do with a little more storage space for toothbrushes etc that you want near the sink. Neither of these are things that would stop us from going again.

Location of ashdale House was central to matlock bath. Breakfast was tasty.
Room 4 that we stayed in was chilly. The bathroom would benefit from shelves to place toiletries on and a stool/chair to place towels/clothes on while showering

The guesthouse occupies an enviable location on the main road and central for the activity of Matlock Bath, making it a very convenient base. It is difficult to imagine a better location, and this is definitely one of the property's greatest assets. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast is served between 8:30 and 9:30, which suits me just fine. The earlier the better. The breakfast room was clean, tidy and well presented. Food was good, full English, cereals, tea, coffee etc definitely hit the spot,
As you might expect with the narrow frontage, parking is a bit tight. There's room for four cars, but might require some juggling with two cars being boxed in by two others, tricky if you have day-trips out planned. Fortunatley we didn't.
Guests are pre-allocated a breakfast table, regardless of what time they descend the stairs, not a problem in itself, unless you happen to be seated at one of the two small tables, as we were (the two other tables were twice the size). There was barely enough space to comfortably accommodate the breakfast itself, A little more thought to the layout and appropriately sized tables (for everyone) would make for a much more comfortable start to the day.
And finally, the room. Oh dear. It was clean, but unfortunately that's about where the positives end. The room was... compact, No cat-swinging will ever take place in this room. It was also extremely tired, dated and in obvious need of refurbishment. The carpet, which might have been tightly fitted at one time, was now loose, and the furnishings and decor have clearly seen better days, and the general condition gives the impression that very little money has been spent in this area for quite some time.
The plumbing deserves a special mention. The toilet being flushed in the room above produced such a loud and dramatic roar in our room it sounded as though the entire house drainage system was running directly through the walls. Needless to say, being woken by someone answering the call of nature in the room above is not an especially relaxing part of the guest-house experience. Score 1 out of 10 for the plumbing.
