The Cash Butcher - Classy & Centrally Located

The property has beautiful interior considerations and it was very comfortable and exceptionally warm. The heated concrete is super cosy. The bed was luxurious and we had a wonderful sleep. The mattress is very comfortable as were the pillows. The bathroom is also huge with plenty of space. It was nice and quiet in the evening, which is something we value. Excellent communication provided early in the day from the property owner.

We were going to eat our take away food outside, but we felt quite uncomfortable about the camera in the back courtyard. There’s a great seating arrangement out there, but for us, this was a definite downfall to the property. As someone who is often engaged/Working alongside domestic abuse survivors, having the camera focused on you outside is concerning. I completely understand the camera out on the street and focused on the front door area, but this is not something I have even experienced at hotels on balconies. As the owner has shared in other reviews, it is noted under ‘Most popular facilities’ and then, ‘See all facilities’ and then, ‘Safety & security’. The information there states, ‘CCTV outside property’. This is misleading. It should state, ‘CCTV located within courtyard’. To the owner’s credit, they have also highlighted this aspect in their Welcome message when you receive the code, which states, ‘Please note there are security cameras located externally at the property’. Again, this sentence requires extra detail. We went to the lake and ate our dinner there and this was still a positive experience… Reading through the responses to some reviews, I thought they were a little passive aggressive in nature and this was disappointing as it really is a unique, special property. In addition, the coffee pod machine didn’t work. We would have messaged the owner, but it was after 9:00 PM and the welcome message indicates that they are available for questions until 9:00 PM, which is totally reasonable. The housekeeper could potentially do an audit of key items during their assessment and cleaning of the premises? There were no tissues available. Although a previous review noted they’re available in the bathroom in the laundry amenities basket. There were none. We triple checked. We brought in a pack from the car. There was also 2 teaspoons, but 6 forks and knives. This could be addressed easily. As mentioned above, an audit from the cleaner may assist.

We loved everything about The Cash Butcher. It is so cosy and inviting as soon as you step through the door. It is exactly as pictured if not better. The living area is lovely to sit and relax, the kitchen is well equipped. The bed is super comfy. The heated floors are lovely in the cold winter. Location I wouldn't class as walkable but it is good, we had our car, however used an Uber for dinner. If we were to stay in Ballarat again we would most definitely stay again.

Very nicely furnished accommodation - tastefully done and it felt special. We don't know the Ballarat area and to us the 'centrally located' description given is a bit of a stretch (20 mins walk to the nearest pub - The Marlow (which was v nice)) and the main area for restaurants was further still (we drove as it was walking along busy streets). There didn't appear to be any compendium of tips/recommendations which would have been good.

Very clean, comfortable bed and great location. Great potential but need a few tweaks to really make it wonderful.

Cold, uncomfortable lounge. Floor very slippery in the bathroom and no grab handles Camera at the rear of the property did not allow us to relax and use the outside area. Too cold and uncomfortable to sit in the front of the house.
