The location was excellent. It was next door to a local market and about 1/3 of a mile from the downtown area.
The property was decorated in a faux provincial French country beach style. The kitchen was brightly lit and exceedingly well equipped although we did not use it except for the refrigerator, the sink and the rubbish can.
The owner provided moai shaped little bars of soap.
The owner's husband, Tito, was a wise and charming man who acted as our guide. We will remember his knowledgeable
comments about the history of Rapa Nui.
The description of the house said that one could cancel until the day before. Eight days before I was scheduled to arrive, I notified them through Booking.com that I was planning to cancel one night of a two-night reservation. The property owner insisted that I pay 3/4ths of the total sum for two nights. She also charged a total of $280 for 3.5 hours the first day and 4 hours the second day for her husband's guide service.
The property was billed as a 2 bdrm. The lights in the left bdrm were so dim (wall sconce above the closet did not work) that it was not useable after dark. The right bdrm had a wall sconce burnt out as well but it had a table lamp which shed enough light to be useable.
The bathroom had no toilet paper dispenser so they placed the roll on the toilet.
The shower handle came off in my hand. The water pressure was very low. The shower stall was narrow; I would estimate it as 24 inches.
The worst part were the inch-long roaches which arrived after dark. We killed about 8 of them before we figured out that they were coming in from the yard through the 5/8 inch gap between the door bottom and the floor, When we rolled up one of the small throw rugs and shoved it in the gap it solved the problem. After the first few, we left the bodies where they died.
