FERGUS Club Carema Splash

My 12 year old son liked the splash pool slides and the buffet range. Two quiet pools near the garden rooms were great for being away from the crowds at the main pool. Staff were fabulous throughout. The beach is worth a visit, incredibly shallow with a sand bank a few metres out, making the water really warm in the afternoon.

There are parts of the hotel where the drains smell, with a lot of wasps hanging around them. Obviously the island is in drought, but the stagnant water around the pool and snack bar are due a big wash out with people spilling soda. The bathroom could do with some hooks on the wall or the door, there was no where to hang anything up, and no shelves to store anything. Everything ended up being stored on the kitchen bench.

Si quieres diversión infantil pero en entorno tranquilo, sin gritos ni música, te alojas más cerca del mar. Si quieres toboganes y bar, más cerca de la recepción. Te puedes mover por todo el resort y está muy bien.

Los colchones están hechos polvo, no descansas. Les tocaría cambiarlos totalmente. No hay persianas, las contraventanas no tapan el sol y las cortinas tampoco. El desayuno es muy prometedor pero el café es malísimo y algunos productos no son demasiado buenos (zumos, fiambres, leche, etc).

The beach is the standout, and it's only about twenty metres downhill from the bottom gate. It's sheltered, excellent for swimming, and you can hire paddleboards, kayaks, pedalos and loungers, or snorkel. We ended up spending most of our time there. The kids' splash park was genuinely good. Slides, a pirate-themed area, plenty of attentive lifeguards, and we were comfortable letting our five and ten year old play there. The organised pool activities like water polo and aquacise looked well run and the people joining in were enjoying them. Reception staff were friendly and helpful throughout. We arrived early and they were clear about when the keys would be ready, and they made a point of telling us we could use the facilities both before check-in and after checkout. They were always apologetic and quick to respond when we raised things.

The main thing to know is that the photos flatter this place considerably. It presents as classy and relaxed online, and in person it's a budget resort. That gap was our biggest disappointment. The main pool is small, shallow and was noticeably murky. It felt undersized for the number of guests and was consistently crowded. When activities ran they took up at least half of it, leaving very little room for anyone else. The astroturf surround looked tatty and muddy. Sunloungers were roughly ninety percent reserved with towels from early morning despite the hotel's own rules against it, with no enforcement, and loungers that did free up often had glasses and plates left on them for long periods. There were a lot of wasps around, which I suspect was related. The food was poor across breakfast, lunch and the snack bar. Scrambled eggs like a brick, low quality sausages, and the juices tasted more like squash than juice. Lots of soya milk but no oat or almond. The buffet space is gloomy unless you get an outside table, the floor was slippery in places, and the kitchen noise made it feel far from relaxing. The snack bar at the event space only had hot dogs and soft drinks, with nothing lighter that I could see. We were very glad we hadn't booked all-inclusive and ate out locally instead. The apartment has an induction hob but nothing to cook with, no plates, and only four glasses for a four-person apartment. I understand these are paid extras, but none of it was clear when booking, and with a supermarket round the corner we would have self-catered much more if we'd known. The safe was also chargeable. There were only two balcony chairs for a four-person apartment, so we couldn't all sit out in the evening. The television is enormous for the room and you're looking up at it from a few feet away. The bed was extremely firm, which is personal taste, but not comfortable for us.
