The breakfast, the room, and the kind lady in charge

We arrived (myself single mum and two kids) absolutely exhausted after a disappointing day at Alton Towers which had culminated in the restaurant we were planning to visit for dinner closing two hours early without warning. This meant we did not reach the Bay Tree until 9.45pm. We had, however, kept the owner updated via message through the day so our arrival time was not a shock. We were not made to feel welcome at all by the man who met us. A “shoes off” curtly barked as we entered the building was, of course, adhered to. We were also brusquely told there was “no food here” (we knew this - we are not idiots) and when I mentioned there had been takeaways detailed in the earlier messages this was pooh pooed as a ridiculous suggestion because “everything stops serving at 7-8pm and you’re in the country now you know”. It being 2026, we suspected this lack of takeaway options wasn’t true, and needless to say we were correct, and uber eats provided plenty of options from the nearby town of Cheadle which is only 8 drive minutes away. Alas, the Dominos driver arrived so quietly (as per my instructions) that I had barely had time to reach the outer door before he very gently tapped on it. Unfortunately, mein host had already clearly got a bee in his bonnet about it and marched over saying “there are other guests here you know! You should be ready to receive your delivery!” Given that no tracking had been available from the driver, I had thought I had done as much as could be expected, short of standing outside in the pitch dark leaving the children in the room alone. In fact, the irony was that the only person making any noise was the owner himself as he barged in and started getting plates out at the dining table. (We knew from earlier messages that eating in the dining room was what was expected and were absolutely intending to quietly eat our pizza making as little noise as possible before crashing in bed).

Fantastic facilities, wonderful welcome and would stay again in a heartbeat

Anita was the best host! We arrived to freshly made scones, with homemade jam & cream. After a busy day at Alton Towers, it was the perfect place to relax. We sat in the window eating scones, drinking tea & watching the birds. The rooms were all spotless, and every need was catered for. The breakfast & service was brilliant. We will definitely come back to stay relax, and enjoy the village. Thank you for looking after us :)
