Rome is a huge city so if you are close to one thing you are a long way from another. Having said that we were close to the A line subway, about 1 KM or less, and Vatican city was just a bit further down the road. So a small amount of walking was ok. We used the Subway a fair amount to get to other attractions, be prepared the Subway is PACKED! be careful of others.
Host was fantastic and responsive on WhatsApp, overall a great stay.
