About this house rental

Nestled in Sugar Hill, this charming house for $915 per night is a great option for your next vacation. Holden Frost House Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!' Breathtaking views of Mt. Lafayette, Cannon Mountain, and - on a clear day - Mt. Washington await at this storied Franconia home, an unforgettable place to experience the beauty of the White Mountains. Enjoy your very own saltwater inground pool, private hot tub to soak in at sunset, and gorgeous living spaces full of history, comfort, and entertainment. This two-story home sits on a parcel of land once owned by Robert Frost; it was later sold to his protege, Raymond Holden, who built the house itself. The setting is secluded, up a 1/4 mile private drive) and incredibly special, overlooking the Presidential and Kinsman Ranges and Franconia Notch to the east. It's a short, scenic drive to Franconia Notch State Park (six miles), the Kancamagus Highway (19 miles), and the slopes of Cannon (six miles), Bretton Woods (20 miles), and Loon Mountain (21 miles). You'll spend much of your time here in the beautiful outdoor spaces, whether you're watching your kids splash in the pool all summer or sled in the perfectly sloped yard come winter. Host barbecues on the gas grill, roast marshmallows around the firepit, and marvel at how the setting sun illuminates Mt. Lafayette. There's a palpable sense of history throughout the house (including photos and an extensive written account), but especially in the great room with its timber ceiling, gorgeous fireplace, and century-old baby grand piano (which is tuned and playable!). It's the perfect spot to curl up and stream movies, read a good book, or work on a puzzle with your children on a rainy day. Prepare meals together in a kitchen that's been outfitted by an enthusiastic home cook, complete with stainless steel appliances and knives and tools that are rarely supplied in rental properties. There's also a light-filled dining room and a sun room for after-dinner fun, offering foosball, darts, another TV, and all sorts of games. You'll sleep soundly (and comfortably, thanks to a brand-new mini-split AC and heating system) in eight bedrooms, all with memory foam mattresses and plush microfiber blankets. In the south wing of the house, there are two bedrooms downstairs and three bedrooms upstairs; in the north wing, you'll find three bedrooms upstairs. High-speed WiFi, a washer/dryer, and two single kayaks are also provided for your use. THINGS TO KNOW The pool is typically available from Memorial Day through mid-September, subject to change. Our family of 13 stayed for 4 days over Thanksgiving. The house is spacious and immaculate. Nice size kitchen and dining room. Great game room for adults and the kids. And a very comfortable living room area. The bedrooms are spread out over the house and all were very comfortable. The views around the property are breathtaking and rank in the top 10 of scenic vistas I have seen across the country. Franconia is a small town but offers everything you will need for your stay. Close to the Kancamagus for you hikers.

This house was simply incredible. It should be considered a historical landmark due to how many features of the home remained intact to the original construction. One can refer to the interior of the home as “labyrinthine”— it’s large and sprawling, with two wings separated by the enormous great room which is just as beautiful in person as it was through the photos. My favorite room in the house was the “study bedroom” which was entirely wood paneled and looked like something from a movie set. We got to read about the history of the home through Frost’s own perspective with some of his writing on display. Lots of photos of the original home when it was new from the inside and outside were scattered throughout the property. We loved the cute informative notes about the house and things within it. My personal favorite was in regards to the ancient, bad for the environment heating system referred to as “The Beast”. The house had plenty of space for all of our guests, and lots of extra blankets and heating units in each room to keep the New England chill at bay (it is a drafty old house with single pane windows). 4 bathrooms meant nobody was fighting for a place to go during the stay. We noticed in one of the closets there was extra dog beds and a crate— awesome if you brought your pet and forgot anything! My only complaint was that we wished we could have stayed forever. We took full advantage of the hot tub, game room, and fire pit (don’t forget to get a permit!) but we didn’t get to explore the grounds much due to it being rainy the whole time. My dog loved the yard (she is an apartment dog) and did many laps of zoomies around the sprawling front lawn. Overall, we had an incredible time and I like to think that the original owners, long dead now, would have enjoyed seeing the house so full of laughter and festivity.
