About this cabin rental

This character-filled original weatherboard home sits on expansive grounds with uninterrupted views over the stunning Kanimbla Valley. Enjoy a vast sky with magnificent sunsets and exceptional stargazing from the large west-facing verandah.

Please note, this property is not suited to guests seeking modern or luxury finishes. Instead, it offers a simple, authentic space for those who appreciate history, nature, and a peaceful setting with a stunning outlook. This is a largely unrenovated, old home built in 1895. While thoroughly clean, it does feature elements such as creaky doors, peeling paint, and an old bathtub with some rust. These features are reflected in the price and are part of the home’s original condition and charm.

The house includes a spacious kitchen, fireplaces in both the kitchen and lounge room, and a relaxed, rustic atmosphere. There is also a cosy sunroom and a front verandah that catches the morning sun. (please supply your own firewood if you want to light fires)

The bushwalking near the house in Centennial Glen is exceptional; waterfalls, canyons and renowned rock climbing - all only 10 mins walk from the house. Or jump in the car and head to Govetts Leap and the Grand Canyon. Great swimming at Minihaha Falls, 15 min drive towards Katoomba.

Blackheath is a cute little village only 5 mins walk from the house, with a pub, bottle shop, grocer, bakery, delicatessen, butcher, great cafes and huge antique store and amazing bookshop.

The house is brilliant, curated shabby chic with good facilities. A short walk into town and gas a great view. The beds are average however and the train line a bit noisy so bring your ear plugs! We loved it despite alll.

We really enjoyed our stay and may return again later this year particularly because of the view and location. The kerb appeal is pretty ordinary as the house looked its age and was not inviting or attractive. However the inside was very close to what was pictured in the listing and was definitely interesting and quirky. The house is very roomy but we were disappointed there wasn't enough comfortable lounge room seating in for our 6 person group. We got some great fires going in the kitchen and lounge room fireplaces (you will need your own wood ). The two gas heaters were really effective. The dining table seated us all comfortably and the bluetooth sound system was great. Only one bathroom/toilet but with very hot water that didn't run out.The laundry wasn't functional or accessible (fridge blocked the doorway). While the house itself was clean, there is no dishwasher and the cleanliness of the crockery will depend on the diligence of those before you.... we had to clean what we used again ourselves. Also, at the time, the main oven door wouldn't close properly so we didn't use it.The views were spectacular and within easy walking distance to the Blackheath town centre. Warning, you need to get used to the noise/tooting of trains running throughout the night. There is a projector instead of a modern TV. The resulting picture was dull, maybe due to the old lamp which blew. Recommend you bring your own streaming technology and connect it via HDMI. Internet was 24/12

Our stay was pleasant; the house was clean and orderly and had a nice old-style vibe with the furniture and decorations. The only thing that marred the experience was a faulty fridge that the property owner was very responsive about and they organised for a replacement fridge while we were still there. There was a second smaller fridge available as well, so we were able to keep some of the more sensitive foodstuffs in that while the new fridge was being organised.
