What a way to finish our holiday - at Dos Playas, a family run mini resort that’s peaceful and fun. Our little bungalow opened to the sea, less than ten meters to the sand, nothing between our bed and the blue yonder but sand and hammocks. Snorkeling just offshore where tropical fish, starfish, and meter long sand worms do their thing. Clown fish families my favorite. A sunken ship (tugboat) was explored every day. Kayaking around the island is safe. Fishing from one of the catamarans was fun and fried up by the chef that night. Fluffy pancakes in the morning, bare toes buried in the sand. The best part, Mica the chocolate lab. Playful and friendly beach dog. A fan was enough at night and while mosquitoes were pesky at dusk and dawn, we didn’t bother closing the nets properly and were left alone. Was tough leaving as we said farewell to the island, Matthew, his parents, and the crew. Lovely people the lot of them. Fried bananas spring rolls drizzled in chocolate…wow!!!

The island itself is beautiful and the staff you deal with on a daily basis are very nice. There is a nice dog and cat also
What I wish I knew before booking:
The beach itself is not a swimming beach. So if you’re thinking of easy fun swimming. This isn’t it. There were some nice corals that sadly were destroyed by the typhoon. The food is pretty bad, breakfast is decent and free but dinners with the exception of one night where there was fresh fish were bad. There is no atmosphere, or comfortable places to sit and really relax on the grounds. Each morning I woke up to a hand reaching into my hut to adjust a curtain. No clue why. Also in the showers on the other side is their staff area and there is a window and curtain in the shower. I noticed a mirror here and that seemed very odd. If the curtain was placed in a way you could see into the shower.
A 5 min walk on the other side is Dryft. They have a beautiful swimming beach, waves with a breeze, atmosphere and delicious food for roughly the same price. Also nicer bathrooms without privacy issues. I left 2 days early.
The owners should probably spend some time at the 2 other reports and get a sense of the competition. They were nice people but once you see the other spaces and attention to detail, food, beach. The choice is pretty clear. Lastly as there are no real waves from a beach, there is almost no wind. It’s extremely hot compared to Dryft where you have a constant sea breeze.
