It was near the convenient stores and in a walking distance really beautiful beach and pool. Food was great.
The name Riu was common and like about 5 or 6 hotels had the same name Riu so it was a bit confusing for me and i think they should change to a unique name which other hotels and resorts don’t have it.

The resort itself is beautiful. From the entrance to the beach access nothing but the best at this resort. The staff was amazing especially the bartenders who stayed active and certainly handled the pressure with ease. The staff takes pride in the cleanliness at this resort. The location is ideal for anyone looking to stay in the hotel area. It's a small 10 min walk to the Coco Bongo. There's also a clinic, pharmacy, convenience store, Starbucks, within a 5 min walk. The food was pleasantly better than anticipated. I had read reviews that the food was "MID" but I found it to be a step above a different resort i have stayed at in the past.
1) The music selection at the pool area. I know it sounds silly but the music was a major area of concern for me. The music selection didn't match the energy, the staff, or atmosphere the resort was trying to establish during my stay. People repeatedly brought their own speakers but were turned away. By staff. Heard multiple times from other guests if they could change the station or put in request for music. But were repeatedly turned away. I feel like increased attention to the music. WILL HELP the Riu Cancun bring back guests and increase the revenue for not only itself but for the staff that gets tipped.
2) The lack of A/C in the hotel especially in the suite I stayed at, and in the elevators I rode in. They have an 8 person max limit for each of the 4 elevators available. But when they fill up the heat inside the elevators rises QUICKLY. Making it uncomfortable for guests.
3) The Riu Cancun has 3 pools with the 1st being the one with issues. People have an area where they can set their drinks but keep them out of the water. THAT AREA NEEDS attention, guest's have been hanging on it and have caused a few loose tiles to show themselves. It could be a hazard if left unchecked.

I didn’t like booking didn’t provide me transportation so I paid 90 to get there but if I booked through them I would have a free shuttle to and from.
