A very nicely converted former railway goods wagon, lots of character, good use of a small space and everything I needed (including private full en-suite shower room). A peaceful location off the main road, behind a lovely restored old estate walled garden which is open to the public (with conservatory cafe), although as I arrived in the early evening and left early morning there were no other visitors around and exploring the garden in the fading sunset with the place to myself (which the owner/on-site manager encouraged) was absolutely magical. I hadn't realised on booking that the Railway Carriage is semi-detached! - actually converted into 2 separate independent rooms, but my neighbours (who arrived late at night) were quiet and hopefully me getting up and leaving early the next morning didn't disturb them either!
Pub doing food half a mile up the road, and a large garden centre with cafe across the road - I didn't get the chance to visit either so can't comment, but I noted they're both very well reviewed.
The Railway Carriage was a brief overnight stopover on my Wye Valley trek, and was exactly what I needed having failed to find any accommodation available in Hay-on-Wye due to the Hay Festival/How The Light Gets In music festival/bank holiday/half-term holiday combination!
Perhaps not the cheapest single-night self-catering I've stayed at, but all I could find at a very busy time in the local area, and in fact extremely beautiful and peaceful which was just what I needed before the next day's monster hike in heatwave conditions! The accommodation, the surroundings and the friendly/helpful owner and on-site manager were all great.

The hosts, the layout of the accommodation, Netflix access, the shower, the geese, the brunch and off course the Walled Garden.
Lack of shower amenities but there is hand soap as a backstop.

Really well thought out, everything you’d need for a short stay. The walled garden was exceptional! Really friendly hosts and happy for you to use the walled garden as a relaxing outdoor space, and take a glass of wine with you! Would definitely return.
Loved it all, but if you could use a fire pit in one of the outdoor spaces that could be fun! Wouldn’t change anything about our stay.

A very different type of accommodation in an ideal spot for the Hay Festival. Peaceful and cosy with all the facilities I needed. Arrived to check-in very late in the evening due to overrunning events at the festival, and Llewelyn couldn’t have been more accommodating and welcoming. I felt really bad keeping him up past 11pm and let him know of the delays via the messaging option, but he was very friendly and understanding. A great stay and will definitely be back.
