The setting of the hotel was beautiful along the stream. It felt private and safe even though it was within walking distance of West Chester central with restaurants, shops and great coffee and easy driving distance of Longwood Gardens and Valley Forge. Appreciated all the books rather than nicknacks. If I hadn’t had so much planned and the weather was too nice to be inside, I would have read all day.

The Bookhouse is a wonderful concept! Prioritizing books, making them accessible everywhere, is delightful. There were adventurous and playful touches, including the secret hide-away on the first floor, behind a bookcase. Housing a hotel in a very old house is another terrific choice. The restoration process is clearly in progress; it's understandable that it's a long-term project.
Drawbacks were largely fixable. Whatever scent is used in the house, apparent on the threshold, overwhelming inside, is objectionable and for me, impossible to ignore. The room itself was attractive. However, the mattress was too soft, which was hard on the back. It was clean almost everywhere, but somehow an ancient take-out box with mummified food had been left on the bathroom windowsill, behind the curtains.
