Big Bear, our favorite place to spend our wedding anniversary.

Well equipped with all we needed. Close to stores and the lake. Very quite neighborhood.

Unfortunately we had hot weather, but that's not anyone's fault. We followed the owners instructions and it was more bearable.

Host unreachable on day of check-in. Poor handling on both host & booking.com side

The host's initial communication before arrival was good and the price seemed reasonable for what I can tell from the picture. To the host’s credit, they have since reached out to me privately multiple times with a sincere apology and an offer for a discounted future stay in an effort to make things right. I appreciate this good-faith gesture and want to acknowledge it here.

I had a very upsetting and unsafe experience with this property, even though previous reviews seem to describe positive stays, so I’m not sure what went wrong in my case. I arrived for my 4–5 p.m. check-in and could not get into the property because the host was completely unreachable. I called and messaged through the platform repeatedly and waited in the driveway for over three hours with no response. The host only texted me at around 11 p.m., saying they were busy planning a party for the next day, which did not feel like a fair excuse while I was already at the property with nowhere to go. If the host did not have capacity to honor the reservation, they should have canceled well in advance, not when the guest is literally sitting in the driveway. Because of this, I had to find last-minute accommodation. I was forced to book another property immediately, and prices for that night had gone up by over $200 compared to my original booking, so I ended up paying hundreds of dollars more through no fault of my own. Booking.com’s handling of the situation was also very disappointing. When the property canceled, the platform offered only $70 toward the new booking, which was just a fraction of the actual extra cost caused by the last-minute cancellation. They have since completely ghosted me since, effectively leaving me to absorb all of the price difference for a situation that was not my fault.
