Lovely room , bathroom and bar area. General feeling about the high quality and friendliness of the hotel. Staff always eager to help and professional when available (but see comments below).
I constantly had to wait when I went to the bar because the barperson was elsewhere. This is a common theme both here in Harrogate and in York. The staff are very friendly but you do not have a system to make sure that the bar is managed properly. There were a number of guests that discussed this. You would take a lot more money in the bar if it was properly monitored. But I ended up picking up wine and whisky from the supermarket so that I had some in my room. I still used the bar a lot, but this is a consistent problem (and this is the 2nd time I have stayed here - last time was a year ago). I love the hotel, but this is frustrating.

The room was quiet and spacious, divided into a number of smaller areas; the bed was very comfortable.
We've been coming here for years as a treat when visiting family, but sadly I think it's time to find a new Harrogate base. The room itself was comfortable and the bed was great, but the shower (in an echoey cubicle on the other side of the bedroom, separate from the bathroom) was lukewarm and dripped loudly all night onto the disconcertingly abbatoir-esque metal tray. There had been a systems problem which meant we couldn't get a room key and needed escorting to our room whenever we wanted to go there, and the staff were stressed, but we weren't made to feel particularly welcome, and although we were told that the bar was open (it wasn't particularly late), the staff began switching off lights and dragging chairs from where we were sitting as though closing up. Nobody asked us the following day if our stay had been okay (I was planning to mention the tap), as they were keen to mention two drinks that still needed paying for as the systems hadn't worked last night.
