About this house rental
Your family will go bananas over the prime location and incredible views at Surf Monkey, a fabulous oceanfront vacation home in South Nags Head. For non-stop fun in the sun, guests can easily transition from the pool to the beach using the private walkway with dunetop deck. Surf Monkey is packed with amenities that will keep everyone entertained throughout your stay, including a private pool, hot tub, and rec room. The pool can be heated certain times of the year, ideal for Spring and Fall getaways. With eight bedrooms and over 4,500 square feet of well-maintained living space, this oceanfront retreat is the perfect choice for extended families or multiple groups vacationing together.
On the top level, an east-facing wall of sliding doors and oversized windows in the great room take full advantage of the panoramic ocean views. The open-concept layout offers the sight lines and flow needed for large families to comfortably gather and mingle. Everyone can pitch in with meal prep using the spacious and newly updated kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, including a gas cooktop. There's even a second full-size fridge for storing extra groceries or the catch of the day. Outside, an expansive oceanfront deck serves as an extension of the great room for effortless indoor/outdoor living. It's the perfect spot to watch the sunrise with your morning coffee, or simply take in the salt air and ocean breezes. For an even better view, climb the spiral staircase to the rooftop observation deck.
The primary bedroom is also located on the top level and includes an ensuite bath and private deck. All other bedrooms are situated on the lower levels, three of which provide direct access to a covered deck with hot tub. Imagine taking a relaxing soak while listening to the sound of the waves before heading off to bed. There's also a rec room on the mid-level, where guests can shoot pool or enjoy a cold beverage from the wet bar.
Conveniently located at Milepost 17, Surf Monkey provides the tranquility of the all-residential South Nags Head area while still being close to grocery stores, shopping and dining. Walk or bike to Sam & Omie's for brunch and their famous Bloody Marys, then head across the street to Jennette's Pier for some of the best fishing and surfing conditions on the East Coast. At dinnertime, take a short drive over to the causeway where you'll find legendary Outer Banks restaurants including Sugar Creek, Tale of the Whale, and Lone Cedar.

We had a family of 13 ages ranging from 2-grandparents. We loved the seperate spaces with a game room and two bedrooms/bath downstairs that the young adults could go to away from the kitchen/master bedroom area. The views are spectacular and the beach is a short walk over the berm. The Jack and Jill bedroom setups on the middle level are ideal with a second on suite on the middle level that we were able to put our daughter, son in law and grandson in for more privacy. There is no pack n play or high chair for young ones, which I found odd and unfortunate as the house sleeps 16 and other rentals we have used over the years always have accommodations to include at least a pack n play. The main kitchen garbage is a metal 30gallon container. It’s painted SUPER cute but beware, there is only one bag included in your stay and then you need to purchase or bring your own. We bought a box of 14 so hopefully the next guests get to use them. There is also only two smaller fry pans so if you have a large group and plan on cooking be prepared. We didn’t find a griddle and that would be helpful for breakfast. Other than those things, the house is perfect for your family reunion/vacation. The area is beautiful and it doesn’t take long to get anywhere. We would defiantly come back here to rent again and hope they make a few changes based off of recommendations. One add on that I found very nice was the unopened non perishable food we didn’t use would be donated to the free pantry in town.

Overall it was fine - however needs some general upgrades/maintenance. Some of the stovetop burners were not working properly. The screen door on the upstairs master suite was broken and falling off of the tracks. The decking gave several people splinters - needs to be replaced - normal wear and tear. The pool was not serviced.

We had a great time staying at the Surf Monkey in Nags Head. We had 3 families totaling 13 people and never felt cramped at any time. The beach location is great and was not crowded, water temps and waves were great for extended stays in the ocean followed by dips in the pool and hot tub. Kids and adults alike enjoyed the game room. The only minor complaint we had all week was the grill is too small for the size of the house. The days we grilled, we had to cook/eat in shifts as the grill was not large enough for 13 people.
