Pros: beautiful house, great views, hot tub, lots of appliances and kitchenware for cooking, big bedrooms, huge upstairs bathroom, amazing plants, trees and creatures (snail, geckos, birds, and coqui frogs) on the property, a/c worked well throughout the house, on-site laundry, good parking, close to Paradise Cliffs which you can park at and walk on the trail. Nice to have our family of 5 (included 2 teenagers and a 9 year old) to have their own bed and the room upstairs get like two bedrooms as it was so big with bunk bed on one end and a full size on the other. Cons: stayed at other places and would like to have a more stocked kitchen with spices and such but did have some basics, the bed in the main bedroom wasn’t a king size bed (it was small for my wife and I but was comfortable), not convenient location to the grocery store (it was 18 minutes away) and about 25 minutes or so from Hilo. We made a day of it so wasn’t bad and we knew to meet our needs with our family we had to choose a place away from Hilo. The coqui frogs were loud but they had ear plugs on the nice stands and we use sound machines and couldn’t hear anything. Overall it was a great place to stay and would stay there again.

We stayed 4 nights at Tin Shack. Good location, rooms were spacious and comfortable with great pillows and linens. All bathroom necessities provided and AC worked well. Bonus was relaxing in a super clean hot tub and also the cute front porch patio with nature and wildlife to enjoy over coffee. We did experience some pesky sugar ants in the kitchen (yes, it is a tropical island) so didn't do much cooking.
