We were pretty disappointed that right when we walked in, the property smelled heavily of pets. As an animal free property as part of the rules, we were shocked at how heavy the smell was. We messaged the owner right away at check in to ask if they had any candles we could burn because it was so strong, and never heard back. The PROS of the property: it was decorated cute, had really comfortable beds, had beach towels for our use, good shower water pressure, and was a good location in Charleston. The CONS: the smell, it felt very worn down (example: toilet paper holder practically falling out of wall), the AC unit was so loud we literally couldn’t hear each other talk in the unit (but it did cool the property well), the upstairs property above us was extremely loud the whole stay and had pets running around and barking frequently to where we were woken up in the morning, it just generally did not feel very clean (floors in bathroom, especially under sink, were very obviously dirty, coffee table in living room had visible dirt in crevices, hair in bathroom shower drain, when we opened windows to air out the smell - the window sills were filthy on the inside of the screens). We paid the same nightly amount for a luxury hotel off King Street on the first part of our trip and we’re pretty disappointed at the value for cost we got from this rental.

We had a great stay. The home was cute and the host was very helpful, leaving snacks for us to enjoy and a list of recommended nearby restaurants and attractions. The beds were also comfortable, and the location next to Hampton Park was wonderful—we really enjoyed walking through it on our way to a local coffee shop each morning. We did spend a fair amount on Uber rides. Downtown is about 5-10 minutes by car. We knew that going in, though, and while it could sometimes be a bit of a hassle, it was still much less expensive than staying in the center of things. I would definitely stay at this property again.
