Giving this place a 10/10 honestly doesn’t feel like enough. We spent three nights with Peci and Josh in Gunu Village, and this was genuinely one of the most beautiful and unforgettable experiences we’ve ever had while travelling.
From the very first moment, they made us feel incredibly welcome, not just as guests, but almost like part of their family. Their kindness, generosity and willingness to help with absolutely anything were beyond anything we could have expected.
My girlfriend wasn’t feeling well during our stay, and they took such wonderful care of her, even giving her two free stomach massages just to help her feel better. She also has coeliac disease, and Peci was incredibly attentive to her gluten-free needs. And honestly, Peci is an AMAZING cook! Every meal was absolutely delicious.
Josh was equally wonderful, always relaxed, friendly and happy to help. He made fires for us, collected fresh coconuts and was always there whenever we needed anything.
They also organised some fantastic activities for us, including spearfishing and a full-body massage. I even got to play touch rugby with the local team for free, which was an incredible experience!
But what truly made these three days so special was being welcomed into real village life. They introduced us to their friends, shared stories about the island, explained so much about their culture and made us feel genuinely part of the community. Everyone we met was incredibly kind and welcoming. We never felt like tourists watching village life from the outside, but like people who had been invited to share it.
A little note about the facilities: We gave them 2/4 on Booking, but we really want to explain why, because we don’t consider this a negative aspect AT ALL. The facilities are very basic compared to what most travellers are used to: running water is only available for a few hours, showers are taken with a bucket, and even washing dishes is done the traditional way.
Absolutely nothing. It was exactly what we were looking for, and we wouldn’t change a single thing.

Wir verbrachten 3 unvergessliche Tage bei Peci & Josh. Die Beiden sind so herzliche und wunderbare Menschen. Wir fühlten uns sofort wohl und wurden von der gesamten Familie und Nachbarschaft willkommen geheißen. Das Zimmer ist einfach, gemütlich und sauber. Die Lage fast direkt am Strand ist ein Traum. Das Essen ist super lecker und sehr reichlich. Es werden sehr viele Aktivitäten angeboten. Neben verschiedenen Bootstouren haben uns vor allem die kulturellen Dinge begeistert. Zum Beispiel das Öffnen und die Verarbeitung von Kokosnüssen. Ein Highlight für uns war die Zubereitung einer Mahlzeit im “Lovo”, einem Erdofen. Zusammen mit der ganzen Nachbarschaft wurde hierfür alles vorbereitet und durchgeführt.
Wenn ihr das Dorfleben der Menschen hautnah miterleben wollt, dann seid ihr bei Peci & Josh genau richtig!
