There were some considerate touches - the beds are comfortable, there was a kettle, microwave and ricemaker, plenty of hangars for clothers, and detergent left for the washing machine. Compared to hotels and most places to stay in Japan, this is relatively spacious and has storage space. It was close (8min walk) to the Blue Line subway (Katakuracho, two stops from ShinYokohama - so not as close as title implies), which was handy for us, as family live at various stops along that subway line. The 'host' (company managing the property) were quick to answer any issues and were very helpful. There are konbini nearby, a decent supermarket 5min walk away, and a great coffee shop just near that.
This is essentially a very old house, that has been given a quick makeover, with linoleum covering the floors and plasterboard on the downstairs ceilings, some closets given new doors, but the interiors of cupboards and closets being barely lined with plastic or linoleum. Everything else has either been given a hasty cover in paint or just left in run-down state. As is, the kitchen, upstairs rooms and bathroom/toilet feel a bit old and dirty (we didn't want to use the bath because of this), and there a remnant smell of what was evidently a smoker who lived there, in the stairway and upstairs, and the toilet has a smell as well. (The hosts said they attempted to deal with this, to their credit, but the issue remained.) Parts of the house have been painted, with slogans and Americana, and the outside of the house has camouflage painted on it, which feel like odd choices given that other parts of the house have not been repainted at all, there are broken window blinds upstairs, the kitchen cupboards feel ancient and sticky, and the outside of the house is very unkept and unwelcoming (overgrowing with weeds and in need of upkeep). We stayed in this house for almost a month (3 separate bookings), but after our first stay felt it wasn't the best place to say but that we had to. The location, for us, worked very well, but that was the only main factor in remaining at the site. As is, it felt like a lot of money for a place that had been or partially prepared for guests to stay; and only if there are extensive further refurbishments would we consider staying there again.
