Staying at Secret Chalet at Chena was one of the most unique experiences we had in Sri Lanka. Getting there is an adventure itself. The journey starts with a tractor ride along the bund of the lake, followed by a short boat ride across the water to reach the chena where the tree huts are located. It feels like entering a completely different world away from the usual hotels.
The tree hut itself is beautifully designed over three levels. The ground floor has a kitchen, the second floor has a comfortable sitting area, and the top floor is the bedroom. From the upper levels, we had beautiful views of Sigiriya, Pidurangala and the surrounding forest.
What made the stay even more special was the peaceful natural environment. The property has traditional Sri Lankan vegetables growing around the chena, and sometimes wild animals, including elephants, can come close to the property. It is an amazing opportunity to experience nature without disturbing it.
Breakfast was included and consisted of delicious traditional Sri Lankan food. Overall, this is a wonderful place for anyone looking for something completely different from a normal hotel stay.
