Situated on one private acre with direct frontage on Raccoon Creek, The Perch offers the perfect blend of open green space and peaceful natural surroundings. The expansive lawn is ideal for yard games, kids to explore, or hosting intimate weddings, graduation parties, family reunions, and other special gatherings. Spend your days relaxing in the hammocks, enjoying the elevated play netting, or swinging beneath the trees before ending the evening around the fire pit under a sky full of stars. With the creek just steps away, guests can fish, explore the shoreline, or simply unwind to the soothing sounds of the water, creating an unforgettable creekside escape.

Quiet, rural Gallia county neighborhood surrounded by rolling hills, farmland and woodland. The area is best known for outdoor recreation: Zaleski State Forest, Lake Hope State Park and the Moonville Rail Trail are within a short drive, offering hiking, fishing and scenic drives. Services (grocers, restaurants, gas) and medical facilities are in nearby small towns, McArthur and Chillicothe, or a longer drive to Gallipolis or Rio Grande. Expect limited cell coverage in places, and a relaxed small‑town vibe.

Driving is the primary way to get around; the property is car-dependent. Rideshare/taxi options are limited, local taxi/medical transport services operate by appointment in the county. For day trips, expect 30–60 minute drives to nearby state parks and 45–90 minute drives to larger cities (Chillicothe, Athens, Gallipolis). There is no local passenger rail service in Vinton County and public bus service is minimal to non-existent, so guests should plan to drive a car or bicycle.

The Perch is tucked away in a peaceful rural setting, providing a quiet escape surrounded by nature. The roads leading to the property are fully paved, with parking available on the gravel beside the home. Because the house is elevated on stilts, guests should be comfortable climbing approximately 13 steps to access the main living area.

Cell service is limited in the area, but the home is equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, allowing you to stay connected throughout your stay. If you plan to use the grill, please bring your own charcoal. If you plan to enjoy the fire pit, please bring your own firewood. The home sits directly along Raccoon Creek, where guests are welcome to relax and enjoy the beautiful views from the shoreline. However, the creek has a strong current, so swimming and entering the water are not permitted.

During January and February, periods of heavy rainfall can occasionally cause flooding around Raccoon Creek. The home itself is elevated above the floodplain, but access to the property may be affected during significant weather events. We recommend checking the forecast before traveling during these months.

We also strongly recommend buying trip insurance. We are not responsible for lost bookings due to seasonal high water. We offer trip insurance as an optional add on or you can buy your own.

To help preserve the peaceful atmosphere for everyone, quiet hours are observed from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM. We appreciate your cooperation in respecting our neighbors and the natural surroundings.

To ensure the safety of our guests and property, all reservations require a completed rental agreement and identity verification prior to check-in. A $500 security deposit hold will be authorized on the payment method provided before your stay. This is a temporary hold, not a charge, and will be released after checkout once the home has been cleaned, inspected, and confirmed to be free of damage or excessive cleaning needs.

For the safety of our guests and the property, exterior security cameras are installed at The Perch. There is one camera covering each exterior entrance, as well as cameras monitoring the front yard and backyard. These cameras record the exterior areas only. There are absolutely no cameras or recording devices inside the home or in any private indoor spaces.
