The Pierpont Inn

Older historic property. 24 hour manager on site. Currently renovations ongoing. Bed was super comfortable and my room had a jacuzzi bathtub which was nice but wish it was a little bigger. Room had a refrigerator and microwave. Free breakfast was great, real bacon and 2 waffle makers! Location is close to beach and short 10 minute walk to downtown Ventura. Check out Cafe Zacks, a short walk or drive, gourmet cuisine without the attitude, appears to be a local favorite.

Breakfast utensils were very flimsy & cheap. After all the effort put in to make a nice breakfast spread, why not spend a few more cents to get better utensils?

The grounds are beautifully landscaped with sitting places outside. The whole hotel area was a lovely place to be. The free breakfast that they offer, far exceeded my expectations with the variety of foods they offered and all was good quality. Even better than some restaurants. The staff bent over backwards to meet the client's needs. If anything in the room needed to be fixed, it was done immediately. This is not a corporate run hotel, but family owned and it makes a big difference in the services.

Paid parking was not to my liking when they have lots of parking areas. The refrigerator in our room had no freezer in it. The room had an adjoining door to the room next door & the family that was there were loud one evening only. We could hear them talking thru the door.

Location and staff

Stinky smell, carpet smells really bad, uncomfortable bed mattress.

The location of this hotel is excellent. Just a short walk to the beach and a 5 minute drive to town.

Many things make this hotel a miss. The room we stayed in was very dirty. There was dried dog poop on the floor when we arrives that was not our dogs. The floor was sticky and there was trash under the bed. It smelled heavily of smoke. The chain lock was just balanced on the door jam and fell off when we tried to use it. The AC is a window unit cut into the wall and it does very little. The pool is not heated despite the staff telling you it is. The TV in our room had a universal remote and randomly changed channels and turned off when the neighboring room was using their remote. The restaurant is closed. Has been closed for years according to staff. No timeline for reopening. The restaurant is still advertised. There appears to be renovations happening all over but its clear they're on hold and have been for a while. Breakfast was great but it doesn't start till 7. So let's talk about Pets now because we booked this hotel specifically because they advertise as pet friendly. They are NOT PET FRIENDLY. Dogs are not allowed in cottages. When you sign for your stay they show you one spot for dogs to relieve themselves. Its dirty, its uncleaned, and its in the middle of a parking lot where there's loud traffic and noise. There are plenty of grounds to make areas for pets. They choose not to. They also inform you upon your arrival that there's an additional 100$ pet fee. Non refundable. And they inform you if you leave your pet in the room for any length of time they will call ANIMAL CONTROL and have it removed. All this should be disclosed in the pet policy online prior to booking. Overall the place has pretty flowers and could have a beautiful spot but they're declining with no seeming intent to improve. There are better hotels along the beach that will treat you better with more space for the pets.
