The Hotel by Gold Dust

The car parking was hard to get into

This was our 2nd stay at the Gold Dust. The location is perfect for walking around Deadwood! The rooms are clean and comfortable and the cost is at or below average.

Parking can be a bit tricky. It's about a block walk to the parking lot and at the time of our last stay there was construction equipment taking up several parking spaces. Also important to consider if there is an event in town

Great hotel in a great place.

Canadians should be prepared to have their passport for check-in. I have registered at hundreds of hotels all over the U.S. in over 30 years and have never been asked for my passport. (Girlfriend and I were staying in Rapid City as a homebaae and wanted to spend a night in Deadwood. We didn't elect to spend two days riding around on motorcycles in the rain with our passports so we left them safely in Rapid City.) I mentioned that my driver's license is government issued I.D. and was told snidely "Yeah, in 'Canada'." When I mentioned that literally no other hotel in my experience has ever asked for my passport, I was again made to feel like an eight year old being chided at the playground. The condescension was disgusting . If you have this obscure policy that no other hotel in the United States has in place, that's fine. But having your staff completely denigrate and humiliate a guest for not knowing about it... Maybe not the way to do it.

Poor breakfast & temperature in the rooms were hard to regulate, very warm
