We liked the historical story of the hotel and all the antiques inside. We loved sitting on the front porch, talking to other travelers while watching the train go by every few hours. The breakfasts were some of the best we've had while traveling. The hosts were friendly and conversational. We appreciate having use of a large refrigerator/freezer in the common area and the ice machine.

No complaints, we loved this place!

The Grand Victorian is exactly that, so if you tend toward modernist/IKEA type accommodations, fugedaboutit. The inn was lovingly restored by Gary and Karen and decorated in the excessive aesthetic of a bygone era. Our room was comfortable and generously sized. We might have enjoyed time on the sweeping veranda if not for the heat and humidity of the Kentucky summer. That said, the innkeepers managed to keep the interior comfortably cool, no small feat for a brick structure of such magnificent proportions!

Our bed was very comfortable, but so high that getting into it was a challenge for me.

We were excited to find this property when we were searching for places to stay near Mammoth Cave national Park. How cute it was! And it was exactly as cute as we hoped it would be! We did read online that rooms in the front of the bed-and-breakfast are very loud due to passing train traffic, so we were very careful during booking to select a room that faced the rear of the property. We had no issues with noise in that room (although we also always sleep with a noise machine on). The front porch of the property was a great amenity. We saw lots of guest sitting out there and reading and rocking, and we sat out there close to bedtime, staring up at the stars and watching trains drive-by.

One frustration about the hotel was that it stated a required check-in between 3 and 5 PM listed on our booking confirmation. We rearranged our whole day to try and get there in that timeframe, missing out on other things we wanted to do. When we realized we were still running 10 minutes late, we called them to make sure they wouldn’t leave us high and dry. They simply texted us what we needed for check-in, and said no rush. I wish that was clear that that was an option all along, because we would not have rearranged our day and skipped activities we wanted to do in order to make their stated check-in window. Another frustration we had was regarding breakfast. We had an early tour at the national park, and we asked them the night prior by text message if there would be grab-n-go options for breakfast in the morning because we were missing the seated breakfast time of 8:30 AM. They confirmed there would be grab-n-go your options. We walked into the dining room at 8 AM to pick up these options, and they said the only thing we could grab was coffee. So we left hungry and frustrated.
