Amazing. Beautiful staff who were incredibly kind and helpful. Cute place and very central to all the sights of Onomichi. Would absolutely stay again.
We stayed upstairs in the private room but noise from the common room below was very easily heard; such as a chatty European couple at midnight - but this would’ve easily been fixed with earplugs

We arrived early and it was really great to be able to leave our things while we explored the area. The location was prime - just steps from the waterfront, food, and shopping area. The hosts were very helpful and the value was good with the room being modestly priced.
Note that there are numerous food options nearby. Also note that if you are doing the Shiminami Kaido, there is a luggage shipping option located AT the bicycle pickup at Onomichi Station. We made the mistake of shipping with the black cat near the Guesthouse - they cannot deliver straight to a hotel for next-day delivery so we needed to pick our luggage up at their warehouse in Imibari in a downpour. Most unpleasant. In contrast, the one at the bicycle pickup said they could ship direct to hotel next-day, though I have no idea how the price compared.
As others have noted, one shared toilet and one shower was a little tight for the number of rooms and the steep staircase to access them was not for the faint of heart. Definitely don't book this if you have any mobility issues. The shared facilities (sitting area and kitchen) reminded me of a student club at Uni and definitely not sparkly clean. Unfortunately, the other guests were not very friendly, but that's luck of the draw. Even with those issues, this being Japan, it was quiet at night and the beds were comfortable. In the end, it was the perfect jumping off point for the Shiminami Kaido and I'm also glad we didn't have a multi-night stay booked.
