Exceptional little cottage with fantastic views — the sea on one side and a mountain on the other. Peaceful spot, very comfortable bed, and although the cottage is compact and fairly basic, it has absolutely everything you need — all the necessities were there. The internet was also surprisingly good. Fairy great values considering Icelands prices.
The main issue was communication. The stay is self check-in, which I actually prefer — no hassle, arrive whenever you like. In fairness, part of the problem was on our end: our phones had no reception in the area, only mobile data, so the Booking.com chat was our only way to reach the host. Still, responses could be slow when it mattered. On one of our last days, the power went out in the afternoon. I messaged the host right away and heard nothing for a full hour. During that time I also spoke to an employee who was cleaning the other huts — they confirmed the power was out everywhere but couldn't explain anything, said they'd go ask about it, and then seemingly just carried on with their work. After an hour with no response, I sent a second message asking them to at least confirm they'd received it. Only then did I finally get a reply: there had been planned maintenance on the electric grid from 13:00 to 17:00. Since this was clearly scheduled in advance, it's baffling that guests weren't informed beforehand — we sat without electricity for about four hours. It worked out fine for us since we were exhausted from hiking and just took a nap, but if we'd planned to cook or work, we'd have been stuck with no warning.
A few smaller things: the door handle was wobbly (missing screw) and felt like it might come off, one window latch was loose, and there's no extractor fan in the kitchen, so cooking meant opening the door or a window — fine in summer, but I can't see how that works in winter. That said, cooking with the door open did have one upside: a friendly local dog would show up at the doorstep hoping for a bite, and we absolutely loved the visits.

The room was warm and check in was easy.
I didn’t like having to prepare the beds with linen. That should not be the patrons chore. When you cooler on from a long day of driving, you don’t want to put your own bedding on.
