The hotel is in an almost perfect location for Carmel, near the beach, near the golf courses, and in the center of town. The rooms are spacious, the bed is comfortable, and check-in and out were seamless.
The original hotel is dated, leaving sounds, voices, and floor creaks vibrating from above to below. I was awake every night to conversations and the movement above us. They have a tiny TV that is almost impossible to watch, and it's a metaphor for how little they are willing to invest in their rooms. Finally, the internet was spotty, and I checked the bandwidth at 10 Mbps. I was extremely disappointed that housekeeping in a hotel was limited to once every three days. When we arrived home on the third day, the housekeeper caught me in the courtyard and asked if I even wanted it, which made for an uncomfortable conversation. She was relieved when I said I just wanted to rest. Finally, the small plate of pastries is almost comical compared to the massive selection of bakeries across the street. Our friends stayed in a nicer boutique hotel with incredible customer care, daily housekeeping, a hot tub, and amazing breakfast for $50 less a night around the corner.

Originally assigned and checked in to room 31... it was a King bed with a patio but no view other than the cement walls around the patio, and it sort of felt like a basement room. We slept there one night then asked if something else was available and to our delight we were offered room 43, with two queen beds and a balcony on Ocean Avenue - excellent! Some may not like the sound of cars driving by etc, but we like it and it didn't go late into the night. I think downtown shuts down early.
Nice offering of pastries, fresh fruit, snacks and coffee every morning.
We stayed 4 nights and don't usually request housekeeping but on the 3rd day we needed new towels, toilet paper, etc. So we put the 'please service' tag on the door but came in from a day out to find no services had been done. I asked the next morning and was told our length of stay didn't qualify for freshening up. Not a huge problem as I requested fresh towels from the front desk with no problem... just fyi if you like daily service.

The facility and loc action were great as we hav stayed here a number of times.
No cleaning of the room so we went to the desk and had to ask for more clean towels ......room not cleaned and at $500/nite ----not nearly as good of a stay as in past years .
