The Sally

The hotel is situated in a delightful village a few miles from Carlisle and having good parking to the rear for guests. I received a pleasant welcome from the young lady at reception who showed me to my room. A very enjoyable evening meal washed down with a pint of Hawkstone beer. My room was clean and comfortable and I had a relatively good night's rest after a long ride from south Wales. A very good breakfast set me up for my onward journey to Scotland. I would stay here again if I am next in the area.

Comfortable bed, beautifully clean room, adequate shower. Good location, not too far from main road. Fantastic food quality and menu for dinner, good atmosphere and lovely staff.

Shower over bath, not easy to get in and out of safely and limited breakfast food options.

We felt very rushed as soon as we arrived to be told we needed to have dinner preferably 5.30 / 6pm , ( we had previously booked for 6.30pm ) . At the same time ( and we had not even got to our rooms yet .. ) we were asked what time we would like breakfast , and before we said a time we were told it's between 7.30am to 8.30 latest ! We settled on 8.15am . We went to breakfast 8.15 , breakfast room was in darkness , no staff about . When they did arrive felt rushed and breakfast could have been better , toast wasn't toasted , poached eggs tasted of vinegar , scrambled eggs didn't look very fresh .. coffee was weak and the Cumberland sausage tasted pre cooked and pre heated . The staff themselves were nice enough but communication could have been better . We would not stay again
