We typically stay in hotels when doing short stays - one or two nights - during road trips, but decided to take a chance on an apartment rental when visiting Derry in July. And I'm happy we did. The Diamond House Apartments (we stayed in unit E, on the top floor) was the perfect fit for my husband, our two teens, and me. You can't beat the location - shops, restaurants, the heart of the city right outside the door. Though there was a hen do (bachelorette party to my fellow Americans) in one of the units below us, we weren't disturbed by noise in the least. Would absolutely stay here again.
Absolutely no complaints or issues with the Diamond House Apartments. I just want to provide a couple of words of advice for others: The building is on a relatively steep hill; if it's raining, the footpath (sidewalk) can be quite slippery. A fall can mean a slide as well (weeee!) Also, you may experience issues downloading the required app to pay for parking at local carparks (parking lots), so be sure to have pound coins to use instead. (The parking is pretty cheap, so that's nice!)

The location in the heart of Derry city was very convenient with many shops and restaurants in easy walking distance. The beds were reasonably comfortable so we slept fine. Check-in went smoothly. That's about it.
The apartment itself was tired and worn looking, kind of dark and utilitarian. The seating and kitchen area were cramped and did not feel fresh and clean, the sofas were dated, with sunken seats, dusty and in need of replacement. The windows could not easily be opened so there was little fresh air. We had the chance to view the inside of the apartment on the opposite side of the hallway and that was much nicer, it looked more modern and up to date. Another irritating feature which I know is probably a standard fire-safety measure is that the doors all swing shut with velocity the moment you let go of them, so when you want to walk from room to room or move about the apartment, it's a right pain. We had our kids there with us so we wanted the door to the living room open so that we could supervise them and we had to place a chair in front of it to do so. I would recommend to the owner to provide door-stops for guests. The general vibe of the apartment we stayed in was: past its use by date. I would only book this place if you plan to spend almost all of your time out and just want somewhere to sleep.
