About this house rental
Located in Bald Head Island, this lovely house for $575 per night is a great option for your next break. Welcome to Sheltering Oaks, a 3Br/3Ba home in the maritime forest. Our home is just a short walk to the beach (under a quarter mile) and the Maritime Market (about a third of a mile). House is on a quiet cul-de-sac, down a private driveway, and is surrounded by beautiful live oaks and sabal palms. The house features two four person golf carts, a front porch with rocking chairs, a back screened in porch with dining table and rockers, an outdoor shower. The home has an open floor plan with two large bedrooms downstairs (each with attached full bath) and one bedroom upstairs with full bath. Home is equipped with everything you need for your vacation including tvs, dvds, Wii-U, games and puzzles, a record player and plenty of records, boogie boards, beach chairs, bikes, and a Weber grill. Listen to the roar of the ocean from the screened in porch. Upstairs bedroom has a door at top of stairs for added privacy. A guest membership to the Bald Head Island Club is available, and can be rented for guest use for an additional fee by contacting the Club directly and letting them know that you are a guest at Sheltering Oaks. The Bald Head Island Club offers elegant dining, a beautiful private golf course, newly updated pools, croquet, tennis, and a gym. (Disclaimer: Guest Memberships are limited and not guaranteed.) With no cars and a quiet island location, Bald Head Island is a unique, relaxing destination. Accessible only by passenger ferry, this island is a true gem. Visit pristine beaches, climb to the top of the historic Old Baldy lighthouse, or ride your bike around the island's tree canopied roads. Stop for a drink overlooking the marina and dine on the waterfront. Once you visit, you'll want to return! **There is an external security camera on the premises, however it is turned off while guest are staying. Also please note that there are wild animals on the island. It is not uncommon to see deer, turtles, frogs, toads, coyotes, snakes, and even alligators. Our stay was very relaxing, quiet home, close to the beach, fun for families! We enjoyed the beach, fishing, riding bikes and home-made and take-out meals on the screened in porch. The home is quite comfortable, we enjoyed the island wildlife, and appreciated having the dog along for the trip.

This is the best house we’ve ever rented on the island. Perfect location, close to beach, in the maritime forest, close to the market. Seriously the best location. Place was spotlessly clean, and the host was quick to help when needed. Hope to stay here again and again.

This property is in a good location near South beach, a restaurant & coffee place. We had a great time! We walked to the beach, had breakfast & dinner on the screened in back porch which was nice. We also shopped at the various stores on the island & at the dockside store too. We slept well & enjoyed the house & trip so much. Our dogs enjoyed it too. We didn't have to climb steps at all to sleep or enter the house which we liked. We had no one sleeping upstairs but that was available if needed. Overall a very nice quiet culdesac area & awesome vacation!

Perfectly located near the only market on the island and a quick cart ride to the beach. The house is clean, comfortable, and felt quiet and private amongst the palms. The host was very responsive to any questions. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this property and would definitely return! We thoroughly enjoyed eating and relaxing on the screen porch. We ate most meals out, so did not use the kitchen much, but the most important appliance (the coffee maker) worked perfectly. The king size bed was very comfortable. There was a filtered water dispenser available for our use which was great. The golf cart we used ran well. We took out the bikes too, and while they were a little worse for wear, (assuming that’s because its the end of the season) they still worked well enough for us to enjoy a ride to the lighthouse. There is a record player with records which was so fun to listen to! The location is fantastic - easy access to the beach and the market/shops. Everything was clean and comfortable. This is an excellent place to enjoy Bald Head Island!

The property was a great size for us and it was stocked with so many things to make it feel homey. We saw birds and deer outside, but had all the equipment for a trip to the beach, which was 5 minutes away, too.

We visited this property in August 2022 with my nuclear family, my elderly parents, and my (adult) sister. We had plenty of room for everyone and the house was comfortable and well-equipped. The owner was very responsive and checked in proactively. The location is great and very close to South beach, and a short drive to the conservancy and East Beach. I would highly recommend.

Great location, cute cottage
House was great and location was great. You can walk to West beach and Market area if you like. House was small, but functional. It has everything you need..... kitchen stuff, towels, bikes, and grill with extras. The only reason I gave it 4 starts and not 5 is because the outdoor shower could use some love. It's hard to rinse dog, so I hooked up a hose up which had lots of holes. Also, you could not change water temp in outdoor shower. Other than that, stay was great! Ohhh, and beds were super comfortable and furniture was great as well.

We absolutely love this home. Our kids stay upstairs and it provides them their own space (and a little quieter downstairs too ☺️). So close to the ocean, so close to the market & shops, and a quiet peaceful cul de sac. Such a cute home complete with record player and lots of games and comfy beds. We’ll be returning for SURE!

Ideal location on Bald Head
We were thrilled with Sheltering Oaks and could not have imagined a better location for our week on Bald Head Island. The house is a stone’s throw from beautiful South Beach, and a 5-minute golf cart ride from shops, a bar and restaurant, and the market. It’s on a quiet lane in the maritime forest, yet we could hear the nearby waves. Because there is no ambient light, the stars at night are brilliant and fill the sky!
The house itself is perfect, set back from the lane on a wooded path. There’s a front porch and a screened porch in back where we enjoyed coffee and evening wine. The living and dining room area has soaring ceilings and is beautifully lit, spacious and inviting. The kitchen is very functional with everything you’d need, and all the appliances work great. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and our bed was really comfortable. I slept great!
Kristen and Tally were also wonderful hosts who responded quickly to our questions and concerns.
Sheltering Oaks is perfect for a family, a couple, or a small group of friends. We had an amazing time on Bald Head and hope to return soon. If we do, we strongly hope to stay at Sheltering Oaks again!

We had a fabulous stay on Bald Head Island in this charming home. It is conveniently located close to the beach, market, and major thoroughfares. We very much appreciated the 2 golf carts that allowed us to explore the gorgeous island. The hosts were flexible and very communicative. Overall, a lovely experience!
