SOUTHWOLD BARN is a luxurious conversion of five cart barns in Compton Abdale. The village is one of those 'that time forgot' where there are many beautiful country houses, mixed with quirky Cotswold cottages all on little lanes which lead towards the village spring in the shape of a cotswold stone crocodile!

Quaint and peaceful. Friendly chickens. It would have been nice to have control of the temperature as it was quite cold at first. Host was very friendly and helpful.

This converted, historic farm building, which is adjacent to the owners' own home, is tucked behind a tall hedge with its own private outdoor dining table and seating area overlooking a sloping meadow surrounded by forest. Compton Abdale is a collection of classic Cotswold stone homes, one of which carries a date of 1817, in a topographical coombe that gives it a remote, fairytale feeling. This peaceful setting is a wonderful contrast to the nearby, popular Cotswold villages that can become overwhelmed with visitors.Entry to the unit is off a gravel patio with the living room, kitchen and large dining table in a one-story space adjoining a two-story continuation of the same structure. There are two bedrooms, a shared bath and separate laundry room downstairs and two en-suite bedrooms with intermediate sitting room up a small staircase. The kitchen is fully outfitted and the dining table and living area large enough to accommodate a full house.After touring the bustling attractions nearby, it was a pleasure to return to this timeless hideaway to relax and recharge in the company of the several farm chickens that patrol the property.An excellent base with responsive hosts equals a perfect combination.

Lovely, clean, warm property with all you need on site for your stay. The only recommendation I have would be to add a full length mirror.
