A trip to Monterey isn't complete without a visit to these hot spots:
- Cannery Row: Made famous by writer John Steinbeck, Cannery Row in the New Monterey area offers a colorful history as well as waterfront hotels, restaurants, local shops, beach fun, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
- Old Monterey: Home to hundreds of shops and restaurants, Old Monterey is the official downtown district. In addition to a variety of historical landmarks, this area plays home to the Old Monterey Marketplace; an outdoor bazaar held every Tuesday on Alvarado Street, which is downtown's main street.
- El Estero Park: Located by a pristine lake, this pretty park offers fishing, bird watching, an exercise course, the Dennis the Menace Playground, skate park and paddleboat rentals.
