About this house rental

Nestled in Cahuita, this lovely house for $85 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. Do you want to get to know the Carriebbean side of Costa Rica? The people, the musik, culter, flora and fauna? Then my Casa Magdalena is the right place for you!! The wooden structure of Casa Magdalena is nestled into a natural setting of tropical flowers and fruit trees, like mango, grapefruit, banana, lime and avocado – tasty and attract local bird and insect life in abundance. The two storey home has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a light and spacious open plan kitchen/dining/living area. The main bedroom has ensuite bathroom and private veranda, overlooking the colourful and leafy garden. The veranda and balcony are invitingly furnished with sofas and hammocks, just perfect to chill out! Casa Magdalena is fully equipped and well-maintained to ensure a comfortable stay. We pride ourselves on the coziness and cleanliness of this home. Everybody is talking about sustainable sources. I believe there is lots we can do just by saving energy and I tried to realize as much as possible by: ?NOT having A/C but natural ventilation with wide windows all around. They also reduce the need for artificial light during daylight hours. Fans are provided for warmer days. ?low wattage light bulbs ?the water heater only starts when needed. In this climate we have many months where a hot shower is not even wanted! WATER: ?having our own well ?toilet system dual flush-use the amount of water needed There are recycling bins in the house and a compost heap outside for household waste and we use environmentally friendly toilet cleaner, dish washing soap, washing soap and other products. Casa Magdalena is stituated in a quiet local neighbourhood, so you can get away from it all and be part of a community - not just one of many tourists or ex-pats. Observe everyday life in this friendly area, inhabited by Costa Ricans who live simply and happily here. When reserving your vacation accommodation in Cahuita, consider the advantages of a White Beach location. The National Park has a flag system to clearly indicate safe swimming spots along the beach, ensuring that you can always find a place to enjoy the Caribbean waters without the risk of rip-tides. As a mother myself, I would strongly advise families against diving into the waters at the Black Beach, unless the waves are very calm. Holiday-makers in Cahuita are thrilled by the National Park's diverse flora and fauna - you can expect to see (and hear) both White-faced and Howler monkeys, but sloths, racoons, anteaters, snakes, iguanas, tree-frogs, leaf-cutter ants and an incredible selection of creatures that scuttle, fly, buzz, swim and crawl are all around you! At this end of town, you have the advantage of shops, bars, restaurants, the bank, pharmacy, ATM, Post Office and Bus Terminal all within a few minutes walk, as well as the safety, beauty and tropical wildlife of the National Park. Who could ask for more? Keywords: Spacious comfortable wooden house with priv. pool, tropical garden.

Doris was a wonderful and accommodating host. The property is full of beautiful tropical plants and well maintained. We found everything in working order. We enjoyed mornings and evening sitting on the edge of the double doors listening to the birds and keeping an eye out for agoutis, frogs, iguanas, squirrels. Really enjoyed Casa Magdalena.

My only regret is not being able to stay longer! Doris is so attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. I was nervous when we arrived because this is open air concept ( no window screens) and don’t particularly like the idea of critters being able to come and go. But after the first night I was hooked. Waking up to the sounds of the jungle is surreal. Howler monkeys, frogs and birds make for a peaceful morning! The pool was fantastic and a short walk to town and beach was just the right amount of shopping and sampling local cuisine. Thank you, Doris. We will be back!

We loved this property. It was surrounded by greenery and flowers. we felt like we were in our own little jungle. We enjoyed watching all the birds over our morning coffee. As per the listing a quick 15 min walk and you are in the middle of Cahuita. The pool was absolutely lovely. So refreshing, a shallow and deeper end but not over anyones head. The house has lots of windows that open, lots of air movement and light. Doris was not feeling well when we were their but still made contact every day to check that we had all we need. She was very responsive to all our questions and concerns. We would definitely stay again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this home, and Ms Doris was kind and attentive to us while we were here. She picked us up from the bus stop in Cahuita and took us to get groceries, gave us a ride into Puerto Viejo, as well as offered to connect us with local guides. We loved the pool and it was always cleaned every other day. We really loved being able to get “so close to nature” and saw two sloths in her backyard while we were here, as well as agoutis, birds, iguanas, tree frogs, and heard monkeys at night. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay at your home and making us feel so welcome. Loved the animals!!! I even feel closer to bats now, as they did such an amazing job keeping mosquitoes away!

Everything was pretty much as website presented, although upstairs shower was disassembled and ceiling fan was super noisy unless you turned it on high. Doris offered to bring over another fan but forgot. We made do with the noisy fan. Grounds were beautifully kept and pool was wonderfully refreshing. All in all a fair value in a relaxing location.

Experience Real Costa Rica
Experience Real Costa Rica
My husband and I are planning to retire in Costa Rica. Casa Magdalena offered an excellent opportunity to experience real Costa Rica. The house itself is in good condition and very comfortable. It is typical of what you will find in a Costa Rican neighborhood. It is not a hotel or resort, and if that's what you want, then look elsewhere. This house offers plenty of sleeping space, complete with mosquito netting, which is very necessary. The open, airy design allows for a gentle night breeze, and so long as you don't mind an occasional bat wandering in momentarily, then you will enjoy the feel of having the jungle right outside your walls. The kitchen had enough space and plenty of dishes for the cooking we wanted to do ourselves. My husband and I visited with four of our children 16-27, and we all enjoyed the stay. Cahuita is within walking distance, although there is plenty of parking if you'd rather drive to the beautiful black sand beaches. After a full day at the ocean, you might not feel like walking back. We used the outdoor table and the pool every single day. Most mornings, we cut up fresh fruit and made coffee for our breakfast. Then we'd hang out for a bit, listening to the monkeys, roosters and dogs, while the sun warmed the pool area. Once we got back from the beach, we cooled off in the pool. The entire week was fantastic. Doris was very helpful and gracious. She recommended restaurants, and gave us an idea of what life in Costa Rica is really like. If you want a hermetically sealed room with air conditioning and absolutely no noise, then you probably ought to stay in San Jose, at the Mariott. This house is rustic, fun and charming. You get to experience what life in the jungle is really like. I will definitely come back to Casa Magdalena.

Very, rustic cabin “barn” in a Costa Rica. The homeowner, Doris is a lovely, helpful hostess. The gardens and pool are awesome! The flora and fauna, neighbourhood sloth, howler monkeys, many different species of birds and flowers as well as interesting albeit, poisonous green and black dart frogs are an incredible Caribbean side, Costa Rican experience. It is a short walk to the town: Cahuita is a very laid back town, lots of great restaurants, bars, stores, pharmacy, ATM and bank. There are beautiful, nearly deserted beaches, Playa Blanca and Playa Negra. Downsides: there are absolutely, no screens on the windows or doors, so you are at the mercy of mosquitoes, bats etc. On a daily basis we killed off numerous cockroaches! In the evening, if the windows are closed, it is too hot without any air circulation. Termites were also certainly active in this wooden structure. The house is not like the outdated pictures on the website and is not very well maintained any longer. There are not 2 full bathrooms: upstairs bathroom “en-suite” has one sink and toilet, but no real privacy door. The bathroom downstairs has a poorly, working shower and a leaky sink. There is a shower out by the pool that works quite efficiently. The only bedroom/en-suite upstairs which has a double bed, plus a crib type or where a child can sleep. There are no other privacy doors on the other two sleeping areas which also have double beds, but one bed/sleeping area is completely open. No place inside to hang towels or even clothes and no wine glasses or acrylic glasses to take poolside. Not an overtly, tranquil area with neighbors playing loud music, dogs barking, roosters crowing, cats meowing/fighting and garden burning at any given time. Being close to highway one can expect to hear the big trucks gearing down too. Fans for white noise when in proper working condition do come in handy, but the only ceiling fan made too much noise when turned at a decent speed for air. Earplugs are absolutely, necessary!! We left for 2 nights to tour Tortugero and then left 5 days earlier than our intended stay. Overall, in our opinion, we do not recommend this particular place, we investigated others similar prices and one can certainly, find a much better place to “camp” out on in lovely, Cahuita.
