The property owner was so helpful and sweet! She answered all our questions promptly. The house itself was a bit smaller than expected. We also thought it would be easier to go out on the water, but it was low tide anytime we were at home. It was still beautiful and so fun to sit on the porch in the mornings. You can easily travel into Freeport, Portland, and Cape Elizabeth. Only negative were a lot of insects in the property, but I suppose that is to be expected when staying near the water. Would recommend especially to families. Great value at a low cost!

Everything was great. It was so charming, quiet, but minutes from so many places. The house showed exactly as the pictures, beautiful wood floors. We want to stay here again with family, we had no issues at all. Communication was great and easy with Susan.
We came here with a couple friends from down south who have never been to Maine, so we wanted to be somewhere close to breweries, restaurants, and sights, but we also wanted something to stay at that was relaxing, and a cabin on the lake feel. This was perfect. We have absolutely no negative things to say at all about this home.

We had a great time. Peaceful! Our only suggestion is a new coffee pot and dining room light needs new bulbs. Neither effected our stay in any way, we had a wonderful time.

We enjoyed a lovely week in Freeport. The location and water view were our favorite parts of the house. (Less than 20 min to Portland!) You can watch the water for hours and enjoy the boats, sunsets, and birds. A few things to keep in mind: While there is an incredible view, not a place to swim (it's a mud flat). I would classify this rental as rustic and well-used. The kitchen needs supply upgrades. For example, there was a 4 cup coffee pot that leaked. Why not a regular 8 cup Mr. Coffee that works like a champ? We also weren't impressed with the cleanliness. All that being said, I would rent this house again!

From her prompt replies, quick responses to question, and checking in with us during the week, Susan is a wonderful host. This quintessential Maine cottage is perfectly located for most of your Maine coastal activities. We were just minutes from Freeport shopping, close to numerous picturesque fishing towns, and only a couple hours from Bar Harbor and Acadia. The cottage is situated among the trees as you can see, and is a delight in the morning as the sunrise greets your deck. Good sized rooms, everything you need in the kitchen, and enough deck seating, we sure enjoyed our time at the cottage. Thank you Susan for providing a "home location" for another memory-making family vacation!

Classic Maine cottage in a quiet spot with an incredible view from the wraparound deck. Convenient to all the local sights and amenities. Excellent communication with Susan (the host). It was peaceful watching the tides go in and out, feeling the breezes, hearing the bird songs. And it's true what they say about moonrise over the Harraseeket - it's magical.

We booked a 7 night stay at this property, but left after 1 night because the cottage was so dirty and not as advertised. This is how we found the cottage at check-in:
- Brown liquid in freezer
- Used, dirty sponge on top of refrigerator
- Grease drips down the wall above the stove
- Stove is so old and warn that stickers have been added for the burners and oven temp
- The provided silverware and utensils were dirty, with old food still stuck to them
- One cabinet full of partially used and expired food
- Kitchen curtain rod was broken
- Owner could only find 1 spare key which only worked 1 of 3 doors
- Gas grill did not work
- Main TV did not work (power cord missing)
- Stains on the furniture, area rug and curtains
- Food, bugs and dirt on the floors and window sills
- Finger prints & smears on all windows and glass doors
- Bathroom fans caked with dust & debris
- Large amount of hair in upstairs bathroom from previous renter
- Upstairs shower head is rusted/corroded and brown rusty water comes out
- The bikes & kayaks listed in the ad were not present
After discussing these issues with the property owner, we decided to leave and she issued us a refund check. After we left the property, she put a stop payment on the check.
This property is not as advertised and is basically a scam. Spend your money elsewhere and do not stay here!

On the water, with a deck & lots of windows for taking in the view — check. On a quiet lane with no traffic & quiet neighbors — check. Comfortable but not glitzy — check. Well stocked, with charmingly mismatched silverware — check. We loved our four nights here.

Pros:
-Beautiful location, overlooking the water
-Feels secluded even though your are close to neighbors
-Close to downtown Freeport, nearby restaurants, Winslow Park, and Wolfe's Neck State Park
-Amenities such as washer/dryer, wifi, working fireplace, kayaks are awesome
Cons:
-Cleanliness. Due to COVID-19, we avoided a hotel, believing a rental would be less risky. Understanding that we are in a middle of a pandemic, we expected above average cleanliness. Unfortunately, it was below what you would expect on an average day. Owner did state there was a new housekeeper so maybe that's the issue. However, there were crumbs on the table, spilled coffee on the kitchen counter, dirty coffee maker, an actual pile of dirt on the floor - our bare feet were black after walking on the floors and we ultimately spent the first 2 hours of our arrival cleaning. However, the bathrooms and bedrooms did appear quite clean (again except for the floors). Honestly, would not have been a huge issue if it wasn't for the current state of affairs as my elderly parents were also on this trip we were hoping it would be different.
-Everything is a bit...moist? The chairs feel wet, your sheets feel wet. It may have been due to the humid weather.
-Pots and pans are pretty bad.
-If you have small children in tow - beware of the porch, the railings have very wide gaps above and below.
-Neighbors are not friendly, can tell they do not appreciate a rental in the area. We got turned around on the way in and were rudely approached about being on a "private road", basically told us to get lost.
Honestly, the home is really beautiful and you can't beat the location. In any other situation we could have gotten over the cleanliness issue. But we were disappointed in that due to COVID-19.

The property was restful and private. We were here off season and it was just the ticket for recharging. I would have liked to see a good frying pan, spatula , not plastic, perhaps some serving plates/bowls and some candlesticks and candles, but that may just be me. I would recommend this place.

Spectacular views
Great spot and a cozy rustic cabin very close to everything. We had our two big dogs with us and had to keep a close eye on them because other houses were very close with nowhere for them to run around near the cottage but we packed them up and found nice hiking spots closeby in Freeport. Thanks for letting us share your treasure by the bay!

Amazing weekend getaway with unparalleled charm!
Susan was so incredibly helpful and made sure to help us get transportation to the property after our rental car plans fell through. The cottage was picturesque and when our group first arrived, all of our jaws dropped. The fireplace is amazing and Susan provides all of the supplies we would need to stay warm the whole snowy weekend- she even sent someone to shovel the snow on the property so we wouldn’t get snowed in. We will certainly try to return and I highly recommend this stay.

I LOVE this cottage on the water!
This has been my 5th year renting this home on the coast for my business retreat. It is so cozy with the fireplace and perfect location - you can't get closer to the water! The home is super clean and the owner is so responsive and willing to answer any questions and concerns right away. Super accomodating! Has everything we needed to have a fun, relaxing weekend.

Talbot Way House
The home was beautiful with wood beams, a wonderful fireplace and amazing views. There was a two day snowstorm and we enjoyed every minute of it by the fire looking over the bay. The property manager was great and checked on our stay each day. A great place to stay!

Wonderful location and view
Great older beach cottage with dreamy views and easy/close access to everything in Freeport. Very nice owner who lives nearby and good communication. We made a fire every morning and watched the tide move in and out while the boats came and went. Wonderful. We would definitely stay again.

Dirty!!! Rented 9/1/19 to 9/6/19
Dirty rustic home! This COULD be a very charming home, if the owner would put a little money into cleaning it up!!!!
Problems:
Dirty coffee maker still ground from previous renter (moldy)
Chipped mismatched dishes (buy some white Corelle dishes they aren't inexpensive)
Main floor bedroom has oval rug with holes in it, safety issues??
Toilet on main floor, be careful when you sit down or it will rock you off! Safety issue?!
Both bathrooms showers were moldy!
Bathroom and bedroom doors upstairs don't close!
Bathroom upstairs toilet, has wooden box right in front of toilet, so you have to sit sideways on toilet! (not comfy for 6ft man)
Bathroom sink upstairs was dirty, I realize it old but still needs to be clean!
Furniture in living room worn out and broke down, not enough seating comfortably for 6 adults.
Kayaks could only be put in during high tide otherwise there was feet of muck before water starts, maybe add a dock? (never used Kayaks)
Some of the electrical wiring was questionable!
Beds were comfortable enough.
With some paint and good deep cleaning this home could be lovely, has old rustic charm and a nice view.
When was the last time the owner visited this home?

Cozy cottage near Freeport
Close to Freeport shopping, but felt a world away. Lovely little rustic house on water. Very comfortable, charming and peaceful. Only drawback was lawn work on property early one morning. Our young adult kids didn’t appreciate the 8:30 am wake up call!

We rented this property over the holidays. It's cozy and well-kept, with beautiful views out towards the water. We are hoping to return next year!

Susan was very friendly and helpful.
It's a lovely spot, right on the water, though packed in between other places. We were there on the winter, so didn't get to use the wonderful large deck, but we did get to watch the full moon on the water. The house is comfortable and suited our needs, very close to Wolf neck park, great walking trails, good biking and the towns f Yarmouth and Freeport. Would definitely stay there again.
