The property is quite old and has a lot of issues with maintenance and upkeep.
It was advertised as being close to the water - and it isn't.
Tiles are falling inside roof
hole in one wall
rocks hold doors open or closed
the upstairs toilet had to be fixed as the plunger was old and falling apart.
It was obviously the owners grandparent place and hasn't been updated at all
The owner and the friend (caretaker) were very responsive and very nice - which was helpful.
I just couldn't recommend this property to anyone in the condition that it is in today.

It was a nice older home. Needs a place to grill and sit outdoors. The lawn wasn't mowed when we got there but someone came the next day and mowed only part of it. But on the whole we enjoyed our stay.

Quiet neighborhood. Vintage furnishings. Plenty of room for all 6 of us.

We were fortunate to get this listing on short notice. The owner and manager were very helpful and responsive. The property was clean. We were grateful for the washing machine & laundry. There is no dishwasher but that wasn’t an issue for us on a weeklong stay. The beds are a bit smaller than we are used to using but comfortable. The only real challenges were the location ( away from everything including restaurants, grocery, water and park); single shower, and the very steep yet low headroom stairs. My family is tall (5’8”, 5’11, 6’1” and 6’2”) and knocked our heads on the ceiling a few times. I recommend your tallest guests stay downstairs if possible . Overall, we really enjoyed our stay - just a little more driving each day than we’d hoped

We had a wonderful time for our visit to Maine and this house made us feel very welcome. It was an ideal location for everything we wanted to see and do. We loved the cozy feeling and it is obvious this home was cherished. We had no need to contact the property manager. We will recommend to family and friends for a very cozy stay.

This was one of my favorite vacations yet! Amazing scenery, amazing food, and very kind people. I would be more than happy to stay again at this property! In the end, I give my thanks to the property owner / manager as they gave amazing support and they were very kind.
Thank you for enabling us to have a great time!

Though the property does not have a water view, it is perfectly located for day trips and hikes from Bar Harbor to Lubec.
Very clean and comfortable. We loved our stay!

Convenient location
Conveniently located. We spent one day in and near Lubec. One day we rode the ferry from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor, spent party of the day walking around them, rode the Island Explorer Shuttle through Acadia. We initially thought we would spend a day in Acadia but decided the park was too crowded so we opted to spend the next day hiking in Schoodic instead. Beautiful! Very few people, plenty of parking. We took the folding lawn chairs from the house and set them on the rocks to enjoy the afternoon sun.
The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. We made simple breakfasts, packed lunches for the day and came back in the evening to prepare dinner.
There were 4 (adults) of us staying. Plenty of space to spread out and be comfortable. We all shared the downstairs shower because there is only a bathtub in the upstairs bathroom, but we never ran out of hot water!

Quaint Quiet Farmhouse
We enjoyed our stay here immensely. The property is clean and well kept. The old fashioned furniture is charming. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking. It is in a quiet little town about an hour and half from the bustle of Mt Desert Island. We drove in there some days and found fantastic hiking nearby on others. The Hannaford grocery in Machias was great and about 20 minutes away. This place provided a great base for exploring beautiful Downeast Maine.

The pictures suggested that the house was near the ocean with one picture showing chairs. I was looking forward to am coffee by the ocean. When we arrived there was a broken down trailer home across the street. Not a pleasant neighborhood. The house was hot and stuffy. My sons shared a room upstairs and my daughter the other. I was downstairs. My sons opened their bedroom window and turned on the boxed fan and after 2 nights told me they had not slept much as they were miserably hot. My daughter had a window ac unit which did not help much. I was in the downstairs bedroom which was not as bad as theirs but I had to sleep on top of the covers and the pillows were flat. We had put aside money and have wanted to come to Maine for a long time. I was not going to have my family miserable for the rest of the vacation. Also I had difficulty unlocking the door to the house. While I was struggling with the lock, the storm door hit against me and the glass broke. I had a prior wonderful experience with VRBO but this experience will make me think long and hard before I use this service again.

Fun time at Grandma's House!
Staying here was like going to grandma's house - in every positive sense of the statement! Clean, warm and welcoming, comfortable, and fun! We would stay here again! Central location to our destination points like Lubec (going east/north) to Acadia (going west/south) and many stops in between! Thank you Carolyn!

Clean - Remote - Quiet
The house is very clean. The manager was very responsive and the price was fantastic. The photos are a bit deceiving this house is located about an 1.5 hours from Bar Harbor and an hour from Acadia. Schoodic Peninsula (water pic) is about an hour away. There are personal photos in the house which I found to be odd.

Older home with long family history. 1 double downstairs, 1 double upstairs and 2 twins upstairs. Problem arose with staircase. Pretty steep stairs that make a 90 degree turn at top, and the ceiling is very low at that point (approximately 30” angling to about 65”). Kids and most healthy adults can maneuver through OK. Unfortunately we are all in our mid 70’s and had problems. Many handicapped would also find it difficult. The house is very clean and most of the furniture and mattresses are vintage. Some of the mattresses are on their last legs. Location away from crowds. About an hour from Winter Park and Schoodic Point (our favorite) and about an hour 10 from Acadia Bar Harbor area (another great place). An extended bike trail is only a few blocks away. It goes for about 90 miles and has some loose grave and hard pack. Highly recommend riding/walking north. Particularly on weekends many 4 wheelers with lots of dust. About a mile north most of them enter a different trail. A final note has to include a great local restaurant just a couple blocks away. They are cash only but well worth it.

The property is well maintained with its original old farmhouse charm. It is a bit of a drive to Acadia, but the area is very quiet and relaxing. We did not spend much time in the rental, but it was perfect for our needs. Our family enjoyed the drive to Acadia, as it is a very beautiful area. We filled our days with recreation and then slept sound on comfortable beds. Carolyn was very responsive to my questions before we arrived, and we had no need to contact her or the property manager once we arrived. All the directions were very clear and check-out was very simple.

We looked a bit late in the year for an affordable 2 bathroom place for our family 2 adults and two adult kids). This property fit our budget and was near enough to Acadia to suit us. My husband and son loved the Downeast Sunrise trail for their morning run. That was an unexpected bonus! Easy day trips to West Quoddy Head, Bar Harbor and Schoodic Peninsula. We tried the tv and couldn't get it to work. The property manager was very responsive and sorted it out within a day. We had a great trip.

This cute farmhouse, that has been in the family for years, was our home for over a week. We came to Maine, for the first time, to see my son perform at a music camp and to celebrate my birthday. It was the perfect getaway for us. The charm of the old farmhouse, full of eclectic vintage books and furniture, quiet neighborhood and off the beaten path location was everything we were looking for.
We were situated just about an hour from everything, going north and south. We toured obscure islands, met the locals, visited them at their own historic homes, went on hikes and bike rides, went to Acadia and watched the sunrise on Schoodic. We made no plans, but filled our days with nature and the breathtaking beauty that Maine has to offer. Grocery store and gas were close. Shower always had hot water. The sun shining through the windows in the morning and the smell of salt air. It is a great old farmhouse! Hoping my son chooses to come back to this music camp, but we will be back, either way! We have new friends here and can't wait to visit them and also enjoy the beauty of Maine again! We will definitely come back and we will hopefully be able to stay at the Kennedy farmhouse again!!!
