This property was picture perfect, the picture does not lie! We woke up every morning to a post card outside our door! This property was actually very close to LOTS of places that we visited. Becky and Dan, the owners, were excellent hosts and gave us recommendations on the best places to experience from restaurants to sightseeing! Would definitely go back to this location :)

This is a great location with a property that has tremendous potential. Unfortunately, that is the extent of positive aspects of my stay, and I'm rarely critical of VRBO propertiees. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but what the owner describes as rustic I would call primitive, at best. The cabin is uninsulated, with only pine board sheathing separating you from the great outdoors. This makes it extremely prone to very high heat and very cold temperatures. The 3 window air conditioners are unable to cope with temperatures above 80 degrees, and the wood stove is unable to heat the cabin at below 60 temps. Moreover, some of the boards are rotted at the floor level, allowing in the heat, cold, and bugs. Also, while the cabin has screened doors and windows, the doors do not close properly and are full of holes, providing free access to moths and mosquitos. Lights on after dark really attract these visitors so darkness is the rule. The cabin is also very cluttered, with old furniture that is neither useful nor comfortable, such as 4 high barstools used to hold oscillating fans. Lots of pictures and fake plants, most of which hadn't been dusted for ages. The fans themselves were so dirty that I had to clean them to avoid grossing out visitors who might see them when the blades were't turning. Cookware was also well past its prime with not one usable fry pan in the stack, Cleanliness of any of the cookware was also an issue, as was cleanliness in general. As a tenant I'm not accustomed to having to vacuum a rental when moving in, but that's what I had to do simply to remove all the cobwebs in the corners of the unfinished pine walls. Unfortunately, I was unable to clean the bathtub, by far the grossest fixture I have ever seen. The good part is that only my feet touched anything there. On the plus side, the lake is a beautiful, clean body of water. At least I hope so because that is the water suppkly for the cabin and what you'll be using to wash your body and dishes. Drinking water is bottled and supplied by the owner. The beach, boats, and float mentioned in the description are indeed lovely, but the happen to be next door at the owner's home. They are indeed available for use, provided the owner doesn't have other guests at the time. Oh yes, there is an outdoor grill provided, but it's charcoal. I could go on but I'm running out of space and by now you get the picture. I doubt that this cabin gets any repeat visitors and now I know why.

We had a wonderful stay at Becky and Dan's cottage at Swan Lake! The house was quaint and cozy and very clean! Exactly as it was pictured! It had everything that we needed for our stay (with two teen girls)!! We arrived very late on Sunday and Becky was kind enough to leave the lights and the fans/ac on for us so it was very comfortable when we arrived! The lake was clean and cool - perfect for swimming! We brought our kayaks and paddleboard and Becky also allowed us to use hers so we could all go out together! We loved the fire pit just across the grass and steps from the water. It was so peaceful to have coffee in the morning and toasted marshmallows at the end of the day! We didn't realize the dock was not in front of the cottage but just across the grass in front of Becky's house but that was no issue at all! Becky and Dan gave us lots of privacy! We swam almost every day we were there! We also took advantage of being close to Belfast, Bar Harbor, Orlean and Bangor - having a lobster feast at Young's, eating ice cream at the Wild Cow, going on a whale watch, picking Maine blueberries at an organic farm and playing the requisite mini-golf! I would highly recommend Becky and Dan's cottage as a place to rent and get away for some peace and quiet while still being close enough to civilization too! My only negative would be the weak wi-fi signal - we were not able to get a good signal in the cabin (only out in the yard/nearer the main house) and with teens and in this age of technology that was the only small negative. We were sad that we had to leave a day early but we really enjoyed our time in Maine! Becky and Dan were excellent hosts!

Becky and Don provided a lovely experience. The cottage was clean and nicely appointed. Perfect for my wife and I. The beautiful flowers attracted a hummingbird that joined us in the mornings for breakfast on the deck. We saw and heard loons, a bald eagle, ducks, and several kingfishers! The location was just minutes from the coastal town of Belfast which was a pleasant surprise. We found several good restaurants and lovely coastal views. Whether you want to just relax at the late or explore the beautiful coast of Maine, this cottage provides a perfect base camp for s couple or small family. Highly recommend!!!
