Avalon was a great find close to Gare du Nord/ the Eurostar terminal. We tend to book nearby so it's easy to get the first train back to London and this was fabulous. It's a tasteful, budget friendly hotel -- and I hope good reviews don't change that. Most importantly, it had excellent air conditioning during the summer heatwave. It was a godsend to return to after a long day out and about in Paris. Rooms were also a good size (we booked a family room with an additional single bed). The bathroom was pretty tired, but shower pressure was great. Check-in staff were lovely (there was no bar fridge in our room but they stored items for us during the heat).
It's a very basic reception/ lobby area, and classic older style building (creaky lift, stairs). Standard for Paris but international visitors might find it off-putting.

The location is great because it's very close to Gare du Nord, and even Notre Dame is within walking distance (about a 45 to 60-minute walk). Being so close to the main station makes it incredibly easy to catch the metro around Paris or take a train to other major cities.
The rooms are quite tiny, but that is to be expected given the central location right next to the train station. Other than that, it offers great value for the price, and the location is excellent. There really isn't much to complain about, and we had an enjoyable stay.

Location very convenient for Gare du Nord station.
The pictures are awesome but in reality it is a very old place.
