Alton House Hotel

Location, clean room, excellent parking, nice staff.

Wish we requested a ground floor room, as we are elderly carrying the cases and things up three floors was a problem. Also no where to hang your clothes in the bathroom a hook could be useful and no grab rail in the shower for us oldies.Otherwise all fine.

Just a good value werll located Hotel

Good value had what I needed

Big room. Very comfortable bed. White bed linen. Full length mirror. Lots of natural light. Bath as well as shower. Lots of hot water. Nice toiletries. Table & chairs in room. Lots of storage should you need it. Bus stop right outside the door. 64 to Winchester & back takes you to Jane Austen's house & Chawton House & gardens. Get off at Chawton Roundabout stop & opposite side of road for return to Alton. Only £2.30 each way. Short walk to the village on the far side of the very busy roundabout. Chawton is beautiful. Café in village & in Chawton House. So Alton House Hotel is a very handy base for the Jane Austen experience & public transport in general with buses at least every 30 minutes.. Only £3 to Winchester about an hour's journey with Stagecoach bus. They also have parking for those who need it. It's very close to the High Street. Lovely second hand book shop a few seconds walk to the left of the exit of the hotel as you head downtown. It's a great location.

Curtains were blackout but short & light got in from the top, sides & bottom so not really proper full blackout curtains that one sees in modern hotels Light underneath the bedroom door from the hall because of a big gap, though a bath mat blocked it. I did bring an eye mask & ear plugs thankfully. No Fridge, which at the price point & the presence of a table & chairs would be helpful. The price really should have included, at the very least, a continental breakfast. Carpets were vacuumed but really need replacing or a very deep cleaning. However, overall the hotel is clean if a bit run down in general, & I would stay again if I was in the area despite the shortcomings.
