On the positive side, the location near Termini Station is perfect for getting around Rome, and the room itself was fine (aside from a loose toilet seat). The cleaning staff were helpful, and a special shoutout goes to the attached Target Restaurant—the food was delicious and the staff there were incredibly kind and welcoming!
The hotel's check-in system created major friction. Flying standby, we arrived a day early and were completely willing to pay for an extra night if available. But arriving at the hotel, there was no staff on-site to speak with in person. We had to navigate adding a day through Booking.com messages while simultaneously trying to download WhatsApp (which was required for access, but not clearly communicated before the room was paid for) just to get inside.
While I am aware that having WhatsApp installed beforehand would have made things go more smoothly, in the final frantic minutes of packing and paying for a trip, details easily get lost in the shuffle. Expecting guests who have been traveling and awake for over 24 hours to download a new app and troubleshoot check-in on the spot is an unreasonable expectation. When my family member arrived exhausted the next day and faced similar obstacles, the hotel staff simply blamed us for not being prepared rather than offering helpful customer service.
Additionally, travelers need to read the fine print closely: the mandatory city tourist tax is not baked into the upfront booking price. I really dislike being surprised by extra costs after a reservation is made, and hotels should just include all required fees in the total price so guests know what they are paying upfront rather than leaving it hidden in the details.
While the location and attached restaurant were fantastic, the lack of on-site reception, clunky check-in, defensive staff, and hidden fee structure made what should have been a seamless stay unnecessarily stressful.
