Great location - very atmospheric, in the heart of the Sassi.
Super comfortable bed and pillows - asked for two extra pillows which were given immediately.
Lovely big room with stairs up to galleries landing and window overlooking Sassi - gave a bit of light too which softened the cave accommodation.
View over the Sassi was incredible
Helpful friendly staff at all times.

Room was clean and spacious but furnishings were very basic - would have liked bedside lamps and a second chair.
We were also a bit chilly - heating thermostat was set to 19.5 but didn’t seem to be working. We asked for it to be turned up as it was operated centrally and the Reception person said he’d look at the computer setting but it didn’t get any warmer.
In room Tea/ coffee facilities would have also been welcomed.
The bathroom was functional but rather basic.
Only one plug socket worked to charge our phones

The view from the room was exactly to one monastery and ruins. Location very good. The breakfast tasty, diversified and fresh. The cappuccino was made by a very nice lady. Comfortable bed, good internet. Grazzie.

I liked the location, I had a room right in the heart of Matera cave dwellings and the view from the windows on an evening Matera glowing with lights were magical. Staff were helpful and gave me a free map of navigating around and made some hot tea (after a long walk around on a chilly night it is truly appreciated). It had comfy lights around the room, and a good radiator next to a bed to make the room temperature pleasant. Checkout was quick, maybe because I was in rush for my bus, I've just submitted the keys.
In short, it is pricey, and I don't think is worth the price (around $90 USD with city tax as of December 2025).
The room while was maintained and had plenty of clean towels and a seemingly fresh bedding, somehow had a single slipper (not mine!) left underneath my bed. Also somewhere around the corners it wasn't clean enough. But the biggest setback was when I entered the room - it turned out to look differently from the original one I booked 3-5 weeks before, even though it had all the facilities listed there. And then once I checked with my booking, the pictures there were changed as well. The walls were different and it looked more like a normal room rather than a Sassi cave (which I signed up for). Also, my room had 3 large full-sized mirrors (one on the wall facing the door, and two embedded into the bathroom door (on both sides) with one facing the bed, which made me wonder why so many in a small room like mine. That's not a complaint, just something a cautious traveller takes a note of. Also, the minibar was not free, and I paid for a beer on my checkout, but it is okay. Last but not least, there were no iternal locks on the doors, which is important for solo female travellers staying in single rooms somewhere at the top of Matera cave dwellings.
