The hostel is beautiful, with an amazing breakfast place and a comunal area.

Super friendly staff, very helpful! The big family room was even more spacious than we expected. There is a separate second building. The courtyard is also nice as it serves as a terrace. There was a power shortage in the town, staff was very helpful and went above and beyond! It's a bit off from the town center (10-15' walk), but we enjoyed it because it is quieter.
There were some Argentinians parking their huge pickup trucks in the courtyard just a day before we left. We used the courtyard to relax, enjoy the shade and have a drink before, but that was not possible after them parking.

Hostal Sumaj was one of the best hostels I had stayed in. The facilities were very clean. We had a rental car and left it in a secure private parking garage. Location is convenient and located near a school making it feel very safe. A short walk to the main tourist street.
But what made this place stand out was the amazing service! Ricardo and his staff were so pleasant and eager to help out. When we first checked in Ricardo spent time giving us all the tips to plan our 4 day stay in Atacama desert. They also packed us breakfast for all our early mornings which was perfect.
