The Queens Hotel

The view from the dining room. I have stayed there before so knew about that. The food was good, I ate there 3 times. Don't eat .uch breakfast so no real opinion.

I have stayed here once before. I like the location of course, and the helpful staff. I like the fact the hotel offers kedgeree and kippers at breakfast, not just the things you would expect in any British hotel. My room was comfortable and clean and everything in it worked fine. I think the ultimate assessment of any hotel is whether you would stay again. I would and probably will stay at the Queen's Hotel again.

The decor could be a bit warmer and bolder, with more pictures that say more about the particular location. The "Reading Room" could be improved to make a welcoming lounge. It looks a like a store for unwanted surplus furniture at the moment.

Location, parking, comfy bed.

Dining room was poor... staff pleasant but mostly very lackadaysical. Slowly clearing tables while seeing I was waiting to be served. Waiting for being seated, waiting ages for service, having to get up and ask to be served. Severe lack of items out on the buffet, had to ask for replenishments. And I was down an hour before finish time. Breakfast cooked item on first day very poor.. really disappointing. General feeling that things are being run down. My son and fiancee stayed a week later and said the same. We have stayed annually for years.

All staff members except one treated us well.

"One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch girl." - The Osmonds. While most staff members were pleasant and kind there was one notable exception. On the morning of Sunday, 6 September 2026, we arrive for breakfast to find two wait staff, one a petite young woman and the other a middle-aged woman. After waiting to be recognized what seemed like 20 minutes my wife approached the middle-aged woman. Upon my wife's returned I asked her how it went. My wife told me the middle-aged woman was dismissive and rude. Approximately 10 minutes later, I got up to obtain items from the buffet. The petite young woman asked me if there was anything she could do. I replied when your finished taking the plates back, please come and see us. All good. Upon hearing this the middle-aged woman did take our order. We perceived her manner perfunctory. After leaving she went to the adjacent table and stated we are short staffed and customers are complaining of the wait and that they are just going to have to accept it. We can accept a long wait; however, we don't accept rudeness. We perceived the middle-aged woman as rude and uncaring. In our opinion, the hotel should do two things. First, fix the root cause which is being shorthanded. Second, sit the middle-aged woman down and explain to her that should she find herself shorthanded, communicate this fact to the hotel's customers in a kind and caring manner. Additionally, they should explain to her that rudeness and speaking pejoratively about customers where they can hear them is unacceptable. To be fair the hotel, all other hotel staff interactions were fine.
