Secluded Cottage Located on 170 Private Acres on the Atlantic
About this cottage rental
Nestled in Maine, this lovely cottage for $315 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. Seaward Cottage is located on the 170 acre property known as Sealedges-an oceanfront private reserve near the quaint lobstering village of Cutler. There are ocean views from both bedrooms and living areas of this authentic Maine carriage house. The cottage is located on a private road with no public access. Hike for miles on trails along sea ledges offering spectacular seascape views, or walk on woodland paths frequented by grouse, deer and moose. This area is known for its fantastic bird watching. Eagles are seen regularly and puffin tours can be enjoyed out of nearby Cutler Harbor. See seals play in the ocean surf or watch the thick Cutler fog as it rolls in, swallowing the rocky coast and forest tree line. Picnic at the Puffin Pavilion—the property’s screened porch in the woods. Walk creek side along towering granite cliffs to Cobble Beach. Here you can pick up small granite rocks rolled smooth by ages of storms and tidal surges. The tranquility and privacy of this area is what 'down east' Maine is all about. Watch as the lobster boats return to Cutler Harbor with their fresh catch of the day. Visit the wharfs down the road to pick up your very own lobster dinner. If sightseeing is on your agenda there are many day trips of interest around this part of the state. From Bar Harbor to Campobello and points in between, there is always something new to experience by car, kayak or boat tour. Traveling with a pet is important to many visitors. We do allow up to (2) dogs to visit, with prior approval. There is a non refundable fee for each pet. Please ask for details when making your inquiry. We are sure your visit to Sealedges and Seaward Cottage will be a memorable one. Keywords: Unique, secluded, private,

The Sealedges property is private and perfect for anyone seeking solitude on the rocky Atlantic shoreline and mossy woodland trails. This was our 2nd visit and we’ll book again.

Cozy and comfortable cottage in a lovely quiet location. Enjoyed our time there - only issue was a neighbor's german shepard dog that ran loose and terrorized us and our dog.

The cottage is situated a hundred yards or so from the edge of the sea. The land probably consists of a few hundred acres of mostly fragrant balsam forest and dramatic sea edge. It is shared with the owner who generously allows guests to traverse the gravel driveway and paths. The cottage is immaculate and charming. It is the first house on the driveway at the flagpole, which can be confusing because this is not stated on the access doc. The Bold Coast (between Cutler and Lubec) offers several trails that contain short to long hikes. I particularly liked the Boot Head Trail in Lubec. Blaze orange should be worn on trails.

We had a great week at this property, doing just what we wanted, which wasn't much. We needed to relax, reconnect and recharge and that's just what we did. The cottage is beautiful and the property is gorgeous. There is something to do for every age and plenty to see in the area. Thank you so much for sharing your property with us!!

This property is amazingly beautiful and eerily mysterious at the same time. House was comfortable. It’s set back from the water, but you can still hear the waves from the porch and in the bedrooms with the windows open. Weather and water both felt unpredictable. Sun shining one min and the next the fog rolls in. We did not swim or kayak from the property as the water’s pull was very strong and it felt unsafe with the kids. We had a wonderful time exploring the property and all its trails, which are excellently maintained and clearly marked. We road our bikes to and from the pavilion and the kids enjoyed riding up and down the pavement of Little Machias Rd. We also enjoyed exploring a few towns in the area, such as Machias, Lubec and Eastport. Went swimming at Roque Bluff and even caught the sun rise one morning at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse! We had a fabulous vacation exploring the Bold Coast of Maine.

Beautiful as ever!
This is our third trip here, over the years. We love the Bold Coast area of Maine, and staying at SeaLedges. A perfect place to enjoy nature, the ocean, and to relax. It was great to be back, and we'll look forward to returning some time in the future.

We spent two weeks at Sea ledge and enjoyed every moment! The property is amazing-other than grocery shopping, there is no reason to leave! We spent much time exploring all the different trails on the property and lots of time on Cobble Beach watching the tides, seals and eagles.
If you are looking for peace and quiet and beauty, this is the place!

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at Sea Ledges. After the last difficult 18 months, we needed to get away to just relax and recharge. Sitting on the rocks or in the pavilion does just that. We love the Cutler area and hope to return again.

Sea Ledges - A Serene Part of the Bold Coast of Maine
Very comfortable cottage on 172 acres on the coast. Whether sunny or "Cutler foggy", we were at peace in God's beautiful place at Sea Ledges. Staying on the property we enjoyed trails along the coast cliffs. Off-property, day-trips were easy to Machias, Jonesport, Lubec, and elsewhere in Downeast Maine.
Property owners and property manager were THE BEST! This is our second year and we shall return.

We had a lovely stay and Leslie and her caretaker were lovely. My only complaint was the furnishings in the sunroom which are in need of replacing and uncomfortable, which is a shame because it's the best view in the house! My dogs loved chasing a ball on the lawn and met the nieghbors golden puppy and had fun. I went to the cobbled beach and chilled. So beautiful.

This was our second time in a year at this property. Last year, we visited at the end of July and loved it. This year, we went mid June. Still fabulous, but the weather was completely different. Mid June is flower blooming season. There were millions of Lupines, wildflowers, wild iris, lilacs, pink weigelas and yellow lilies everywhere. And along with the flora come the hummingbirds. We would sit on the enclosed porch watching the hummingbirds draw nectar from the weigela bushes. We walked the Bold Coast trail and saw White Lady Slipper Orchids in the forest. We also did the Western Trail near the lobster place in the harbor. And we did a few of our favorite hikes on the Sea Ledges property. I brought my favorite saute pan because I wanted to create some elevated lobster dishes this time. One thing the cottage lacks is good quality cooking equipment (pots and knives). And lobster prices were double what they were last summer. Another bonus of our trip was the activity from a commercial shoot going on at the property next door on our last day. There are so many things that we love about this property and this part of Maine. Lots of great memories. Thank you, Leslie.

Exactly as described, like staying on a private preserve. Perfect for birders and other wildlife watchers. We enjoyed the trails every day, took full advantage of other nearby trails and preserves. Splurged on the local seafood. Few tourists around, mostly working fishing villages. The cottage was comfortable and charming, a welcome retreat each evening, going to sleep to the sound of surf and waking up to the same. This was Maine as I always imagined it.

We stayed in this nice little house for a week. It is located on a beautiful preserve that is expertly maintained by Mike. Mike or his wife check on you the day you arrive to make sure you find everything and to offer any last minute tips. The kitchen has plenty of plates, pots, pans, and utensils. Everything you need for cooking lobster is also included. The house is quaint. Now I must mention the mosquitoes. We could not put on enough "off" to keep them away. Previous guests suggested the hats and netting. We had none so maybe that helps. We had a great week. It was a little warm the first few days and since their is no air, the upstairs bed rooms get a little warm but once you open the window and turn on the fan they cool off some. If you are going out on the water bring layers, it gets quiet cool. You won't regret visiting here .

The house was in a nice location, especially if you’re looking to get far away from the hustle & bustle & the grounds provided ample exploring. In addition, there were a lot of brochures about the area & places to visit. The king bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable. It was chilly in the last week of May / first week of June when we were there and, as requested, we limited our use of the thermostats—which compromised our general comfort somewhat & we certainly appreciated the blankets & throws. We were also discouraged from using too much water & we did notice that the water pressure was low. We ended up buying bottled water to drink & cook with—because the water was very cloudy. The kitchen was otherwise well-stocked & meal-prep was easy. We did run out of toilet paper and could not find more, so we ended up buying some. We were not fans of the stuffed birds hanging on the wall in the living room or what felt to us like in-your-face religious décor (e.g. the prayer magnet on the fridge, the large decorative Bible on the dresser in the master bedroom, the “prayers-go-up-and-blessings-come-down” craft in the upstairs bathroom, plus the explicit religious proselytizing in the typed notes for guests. For us, the lighting in the house felt dark—especially on dark, foggy days & at night, but we recognize that others may have found the lighting cozy & romantic. On the whole, it was a lovely house on the Downeast Maine coast.

Absolutely amazing!
We had a wonderful time! The views were stunning! The private hiking trails were breathtaking! Mr. Mike was very friendly and answered any questions we had. The fresh lobster was so good! We can’t wait to come back and experience more of Maine!

Our family needed to get out into the wilderness, away from people and back to nature. This place was the destination for us. We are all working remotely and kids are in school remotely due to COVID. All of us were able to work on the remarkably strong wi-fi, even on Zoom calls, and we never lost connection. After school each day, we took hikes on the trails, explored, and tried to take everything in. Daily sunsets and sunrises were some of our favorites-wildlife spotting, and the purest of pine tree smells surrounded us every day. We couldn’t have been happier. This is a little piece of heaven. We are just thankful that we could share it for a couple weeks.

"Beauty and the Best"
We arrived to find the house sparkling clean - so nice! Evidence of how compassionately and sensibly our hosts, the Winns, took these strange times.
Our days were spent watching turkeys wander around the front grounds while sipping tea or just sitting by the water's edge and inhaling the cool ocean breeze. We explored the many trails on the property and delighted in the the wildlife, wildflowers and foliage.
Relaxed at the pavilion and waved to the seals and watched the local lobster boats putter by while eagles soared overhead. Got swept up in the canopy of stars on clear nights and strolled along in the light of the harvest moon.
Hiked the bold coast trails and ventured into the Main Heritage conservation properties. Of course many lobsters were devoured purchased from Little River Lobster Co. just minutes away . Helen's, blueberry pie is a must and well-worth the short drive to Machias.
The property was beautiful and well maintained by the caretaker who was kind to check in on us and answer any questions we had.
If you're looking for peace and quiet, beauty and serenity in a comfortable and cozy house then you've found it. You won't want to come home!

Had a very nice relaxing vacation. Beautiful trails with beautiful views of Maine’s rugged coast line. Had quite a bit of fog and very little rain. Had a least3 good sunny days with unrestricted views. All in all an excellent stay!

Sea Ledges - A beautiful park-like setting on the Atlantic
The Seaward Cottage is the base for this 170+ acre property on the coast of Downeast Maine. The property manager, Mike, does an outstanding job in cottage maintenance and providing information. He also maintains the acreage and its miles of scenic trails even with trail markers.
One trail destination is the Pavilion overlooking the coast. Many of the trails are for careful walking but this one could be driven to which was good for us 70-year-olds. The Pavilion was screened in and had picnic tables inside. Also, it has a huge rock fire pit to do a lobster-clam-seafood bake.
The stars at night and serenity were wonderful, only occasionally interrupted by seals barking... but that's a good thing.
We were able to use the sun porch for our arts (watercolor painting) and crafts setup with great natural light.

Best Vacation for a Crazy Year
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Sea Ledges. There were so many different trails to walk. (Reminder to bring bug spray and a mosquito net for your head). The scenery was incredible, so much so that we decided not to go to Arcadia and just walk more trails on the private property. Every day we spent time at the pavilion reading and watching the sea. We had lobster for dinner almost every night. We took one day trip to Lubec and Quoddy, but just to walk around, because most everything was closed due to the virus. We felt safe at the house. Unfortunately we did not see seal or moose, but it might have been the time of year.
The property manager was around most days if we had a question or needed something. The property is very big, but private. It is a special place.

Nature and solitude
We were looking for a remote location where we could enjoy family and nature without the worry of being around people during the pandemic. What a location! We explored all of the beautiful trails on the property - like a magical wooded wonderland. We enjoyed days at the pavilion, gorgeous views of the coast, and relaxed and refreshed in simplicity. Our teen daughter was also participating in an online leadership program and the WiFi worked great!

Serenity and Seclusion by the Sea!
This was my first stay at this property and I can say that it won't be my last!!
I had gazed longingly at the pictures in the listing for 2 months before, but when I arrived, I was even more awestruck!
I immediately relaxed, the cottage was immediately comfortable and I fell immediately in love. The entire property is like having your own private state park to wander in and explore. The ocean views are stunning and the beautiful trails give you plenty of adventure and exercise.
My all time favorite spot was sitting on the deck of the pavilion and watching the seals float around lazily in front of the island. A few bald eagles would soar in and land on the island for a bit. Hundreds of dragonflies darted about in an acrobatic flurry of activity,
an airshow like no other. The weather was perfectly pleasant,
sunny and in the 70's and I was perfectly happy not leaving the property at all!
This is bliss!
The only disappointing thing was having to leave such a wondrous place. But I hope to return............
Until then, I will gaze longingly at all the photos I now have of a very special place in my memory and my heart.
