We were particularly impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, and the quality of food on offer. Gary had no hesitation in transporting us to the Hadrian’s Wall trail each of the two days we stayed there. Would definitely recommend it for those walking the trail.

Lovely room, nice evening meal and breakfast. Also the owner gave us a lift up the road so that we could re-join the Pennine Way.

The room was okay and the bar/restaurant area was pleasant
The lady serving breakfast was very unhappy! In a virtually empty restaurant we were given a table directly behind another couple and there wasn't enough room to pull out a chair face to face, so we moved the cutlery so we were side by side, not complaining, and she came along angrily and huffing at us! The order was taken very curtly and of course, it came out wrong. Why so rude?
Check out time was 11am yet we had a knock on our door well before that to make sure that we hadn't left? Very strange behavior in a small hotel where our car was still clearly parked outside.
There were other small issues too which just left us unimpressed so it wasn't a great experience.
It's the small things that take a place from OK to good to great and for us, I'm sorry to say, they were missing here.
