The location of this hotel is nothing short of incredible because Reims Cathedral is directly in front of the hotel and it is one of the great sites of France.
We had been to the hotel before. So we know that it is comfortable. We booked a room looking onto the cathedral and strongly suggest anyone with the budget does the same.
We had dinner in the fine dining Restaurant - the food was good, but we found it very expensive, with tiny portions. I think their approach to fine dining wasn’t well balanced.. we had not appreciated when we booked the restaurant what the nature of it was, so suggest that for most people booking the brasserie restaurant might be a better idea, if you want value for money and not go to bed feeling hungry.
The real disappointment though was breakfast. The coffee was not good, the staff were inattentive and we were served really horrible pre-prepared scrambled eggs. Someone had tipped a mountain of salt into them. We sent them back and a second lot of luke warm pre-prepared weirdly shiny, salty eggs arrived as a replacement- so we sent them back too! It is true to say that breakfast was removed from our bill which was a very kind gesture from the hotel. But we had a long journey and we left and immediately had to stop for coffee and croissants at the first available garage!
The juxtaposition between the fine dining the night before and the very bad breakfast experience was extremely strange. I think the hotel would do well to really look at their breakfast arrangements.
