Spacious, clean, and quiet classic historic hotel located on the main piazza of Orta San Guilio. Super convenient to ferries, shops, restaurants, Sacre Monte, and lakeside walks.
I would request a lake view next time.

We loved our stay at the Leon D'Oro hotel. All the staff were brilliant, the location on the lake and near the centre of Orta was perfect. We will be back.
Only that we could not stay longer! Next time we will.

This is a very pretty older building with very period decor. It’s nice and it’s pleasant. An old world charm.
There is very little modernity in the building other than a lift that reaches the first and second floor, but not the third which you access via a corridor and then some charmingly old stone stairs.
The lack of modernisation means that the aircon (needed in Italy) is not the greatest, our room never got below around 24°C. The ‘flatscreen’ TV was probably as old as they get, didn’t work well, the usual wrestling with the buttons to get any response.
There was never anyone at the bar, it felt like you had to search for servers when you wanted anything. That’s with the exception of the reception team who were all excellent, especially the chatty lady who always seemed to be there.
