About this house rental

Situated in Santa Barbara, this attractive house for $395 per night is a fantastic choice for your next trip. The Santa Barbara City Council has hired a team to sweep across the City and identify unpermitted Vacation Rentals. This offering is a Registered Santa Barbara City Vacation Rental and not subject to unexpected cancellation. Downtown Coffee House is a Craftsman original 3 br home with sleeping to 8, and with 2 full baths to you. Located in the City of Santa Barbara on a cul de sac, there's ez walking to State St (4 blks) downtown and the beach (7 blks). This 1905 home is upgraded with central heating & a modern kitchen, while retaining much of the original fittings and character of old SB. This sleeps 8 using the LR 's 2 couch single beds. A video tour of this home is available: https://youtu.be/O5sqwDGCW38 The Craftsman has 2 bathrooms; one with a shower serves the forward bedroom and also has a door to the living area. The master has a Jacuzzi tub in a private bath. The home posts as sleeping 8, which is 8 on beds and also the possibility of another using a good rollaway single kept in a closet. This home has 2 queens in the bedrooms and a trundle on the rear porch which is a single, or 2 singles with the trundle up when it then becomes a king. In the living room the corner couch is comprised of two good quality solid beds. These are cot sized, meaning a narrow single, but these are genuine 8" mattress beds on real box springs. Thes 2 beds would make a queen if side by side. These have full bed linens and modern wheels with ez wheel locks to effortlessly move and lock them in place in the living room. More linens are also on hand. This smaller period home is spacious for 4, comfortable for 6 and will feel small for more than 6. But the sleeping and utilitarian aspect can be stretched to 8. As mentioned, If you are being utilitarian there is also a roll away bed in a closet to sleep #9. NOTE: We have neighbors who will not be happy with any guest group more than posted on your reservation, and they will document and report any abuse. Any plans for gatherings need to be specifically arranged with the host IN ADVANCE, and special daytime gatherings for anniversaries, wedding coordinating and reunion events, etc., can be approved. Otherwise fee's of $150 per person that come to the property can be assessed in our effort to avoid disturbing partys. Don't book those here! Police reports will be received and large deposit charges assessed, and you may be told to leave without further refunds. It will not work out trying to do that here. (thx ). However, happy plans, daytime only, to participate in wedding gatherings or sometimes a birthday, etc, can work out. We will likely discuss parking and things about the event. The 3rd trundle bed is in a nice finished rear porch which is smaller than a normal bedroom, but adequate with a day bed and a closing door. The day bed is a real single bed and also has a pop up second single bed which aligns to make a king size area bed. This will use up the entire porch when open!, but these are real mattresses and the porch is very comfortable and airy. With the large living room bed-couch and an additional single rollaway bed in a closet, you can sleep up to 9. Two couples and children is a good use of this home. Three couples fit and will feel intimate. More than 6 is utilitarian and is allowed for you to have good value but will clearly be tight in this smaller home. Smoking is not allowed in the home. Smoking is highly regulated in the City limits; not in buildings or within 20 feet of others. Smoking is allowed outside and elsewhere on this property, but not indoors. We are pet owners and invite pets without upfront extra fee's. The floors are all hard surfaces and pretty much pet friendly. There is a fenced yard. If your pet causes visible soiling in the home there is an excellent vacuum in one of the closets to stay away from extra cleaning fees due to the pet. Using the yard for non-clipped nails pets and/or excitable pets will avoid possible damage. We do have a Pet Fee of $50 if we find beach sand or pet hair inside and any manner of pet waste which has been left for our crew to clean up inside or out. We want pet owners to have a NO COST option, however you must mitigate extra cleaning caused by any pet. Vacuuming pet hair and light mopping a rooms floor if needed is an owner responsibility to avoid charges. Using the fenced yard (see pictures) and limiting the pet time inside might be a good minimization for instance. The TV has NetFlix and Amazon Prime paid. Hundreds and hundreds of movies, TV shows and children's shows. An antenna is also on for local stations to get local news and weather. There is no Cable. NOTE: Air Conditioning is rarely needed in the beach town of Santa Barbara. However there will be 2-3 weeks a year that can become uncomfortable. We have added Air Conditioning to our rental, however it is a portable model kept in a closet, and requires rolling near the living room window and attaching the hose and fitted bracket to operate it. If you close the bedroom doors this unit is sized to be effective for the living room/kitchen combined area, and help you avoid hot days. This is not central air. The evenings will be cool again and the whole house will be comfortable overnight in all the rooms. If you are here during a heat wave we will give you the combination to unlock the AC and you may use it. If the weather is normal we do not offer the AC, which is costly to run when there is no need. Should you request it when the weather is 75 or less (because you wish for it) we can accommodate with a charge to cover the costs. You are 4.5 blocks off State Street and you are at block 700 of State at the intersection of Paseo Nuevo Mall and State. This means you are 9.5 blocks from Sterns Wharf, at the Ocean and State. Nightlife is in the 500-800 blocks of State. There is a host of restaurants, clubs and shopping as you turn left on State. If you go up State to the 1300 block the interesting areas of State culminate at the Arlington Theater. A rich and historic theater which premiered many a movie in the 30’s and 40’s, and now also hosts the SB International Movie Festival each year. Around the Arlington are several classy restaurants, Bouchon’s, etc. across the street is Carlito’s, a good Mexican place as well. Coming back down State a block or so to Figueroa and hang a left. You are at the Museum of Art at State and Figueroa, but walk a block east on Figueroa and you will be at the upper corner of the SB Courthouse, considered the most beautiful public building in America. Gorgeous architecture and there are tours as well as perfect views of the city from the Tower. Coming back down State you begin to enter the club and activity zone again. There are many movie screens on State street and this main City street, now a walking street from the 500 to the 1500 blocks, ends at Sterns Wharf on the Pacific Ocean. Cancellations that have been charged to credit cards will need to have the card fee's and other out of pockets costs deducted from the refund.

We absolutely loved staying at David's adorable craftsman home. The house was clean, fully stocked with everything we needed, and had plenty of room for our group of 6. The location was perfect - situated on a quiet street that was perfect for relaxing at the house in the evening, while still being just a super quick walk to everything in the area around State Street. David was incredibly helpful and responsive during our stay. Thanks for a lovely weekend!

Fair warning: parking is a little tight, so maybe don't bring a huge truck if it can be avoided. Our SUV fit just fine, but anything bigger might be tough. The location was great. Layout of the house itself is a little weird, but still a great place! The communication with the property owner was A+ as well. I will definitely stay again if I'm ever back in Santa Barbara.

We enjoyed our stay. The location was great, close to everything. We walked everywhere. The layout of the house was a bit awkward for 3 adults due to there only being one shower. An eating area in the kitchen would have been nice, but there was no room for one. The sleeping porch mattress was uncomfortable - too soft. Otherwise, everything worked well and the house was clean.

I'm sad to leave this review, because the house has potential to be great. The location is convenient, quiet, felt safe, all that good stuff. The kitchen was nice and functional. The driveway was bonkers, but worked out okay. The property was okay...there's a dirty old camper outback next to a neglected hot tub. The main problem is the furniture. The listing is accurate, but somehow every single piece of furniture in this house is actively uncomfortable. The beds felt ancient and creaky and rock hard - we tried both main beds left us with sore backs the entire trip. One of them dipped in the middle and the other one was on a weird incline. The couch is not even a couch - it's just two tiny beds stuck together and one of them doesn't have a back. You're just sitting there with your back up against a window sill. Even the chairs in the living room were all functionally useless. Minor complaint - TV was from like 2008 and barely ran Netflix. Communication with the owner was next to nonexistent. I had to follow up on the day of and ask how to get into the place. I contacted him about the air conditioner and he didn't reply for hours. If this was a super cheap rental, I'd say okay, you can live with it, but I spent $2,099 for a Friday-Monday trip to stay in a place that was less comfortable than a Super 8 Motel. If you're making that much per night, take some of that money and invest it in the few pieces of furniture that literally all of your guests will be using.

Great place to stay and awesome location. There are a lot of options for setting up sleep areas. We had an infant and toddler with us and it was amazing to find a pack and play, and an extra twin mattress in a master closet that we could use for the kids. Thanks David! We really enjoyed our stay!

Our daughter graduated HS during pandemic. Never was able to get away. Now our daughter completed community college with 4.0 and transferred to her chosen university to continue her education. This was a wonderful quick get-a-way.
