Large grassy area for kids to hunt for Coqui frogs at night. ✿ ECO-FRIENDLY ✿ A solar water heater provides on-demand hot water, but please note, this is a 1/2 sized water heater. We encourage guests to conserve island resources and take short showers. ✿ ELETRIC VEHICLES✿ We do not offer charging of electric vehicles due to the high cost of electricity on the island. There are charging stations in town. ✿ JUST ISLAND BREEZES ✿ There is no air conditioner in the bungalow, but open screened areas, new ceiling fans provide ample airflow all year round. The bungalow has three ceiling fans, although the unit gets great airflow and breezes through the large open screened areas. ✿ SMOKING/PETS ✿ We have a STRICT NO smoking/NO pets policy to ensure the comfort and health of all future guests. You can smoke outside in designated bungalow gardens or guest back yard, just please dispose of any butts. This policy includes ESA pets. ✿ WiFi ✿ YES - Island wide it can be VERY slow....we pay for the highest speed with the best provider, it's still slow. ✿ TV/Cable ✿ Bungalow is a TV-Free Zone, hey you're on vacation, relax, or read a good book, spend quality time with each other and detox from electronics. ✿ LAUNDRY ✿ Guest laundry is NOT available on site it's but only 5 mins. to laundromat ✿ AIR CONDITIONING ✿ Not needed - island breezes will keep you cool. ✿ OVEN/STOVE ✿ No standard stove/oven, 2 burner induction cooktop is available or use the large electric skillet. ✿ DISHWASHER ✿ No, my solution is 'eat out' or pick up some local food! ✿ HEATING ✿ Not needed. ✿ Price Price is for double occupancy. Additional guests can be added for a minimal charge - we want to be affordable for families, but lots of laundry is very costly. ✿ Check-In/Checkout Times Check-in is 2:00 pm, check out is 11:00 am SHARP. I may be able to be a bit flexible, depending on if there are other guests going out or coming in. CHECKOUT TIME is 11:00 SHARP, as we typically have back-to-back bookings and we need time to clean the bungalow. ✿ Kids and Babies We LOVE kids and kids are most welcome. We applaud parents who gift their children with unique travel experiences! But please do not leave children alone in the Bungalow and please supervise children at all times while they are playing outside. ✿ Dog on Property, Scruffy, he's in charge of security ✿ DISCLAIMERS: Gecko's/Bugs/Etc.✿ We are in a real, live, and living tropical rainforest and Hawaii's natural fauna/critters, including gecko's and insects, sometimes invite themselves in - it's part of the rainforest experience and we don't charge extra for this. Gecko's and small lizards love the inside of the Bungalow and it's hard to keep them out, plus they eat bugs/mosquitos/gnats! If you are squeamish about gecko's and small lizards hanging out with you inside, this accommodation is probably not for you - it's okay, the geckoes won't take it personally! While other host on the islands don't like to mention these things, I'd rather be upfront and set clear expectations - it's a living rainforest and geckos and insects are part of the ecosystem.... ✿ COQUI FROGS✿ The frogs are ✿ QUITE LOUD ✿ at night - EVERY night, without fail. If it's raining, they are especially loud. Some people find their love songs soothing and comforting (like white noise), but others may find their nightly songs downright annoying. We offer Coqui blockers (a.k.a. earplugs) for all adult guests, and you'll find them on your bed when you arrive. Keep them. They are great for the plane ride home. ✿Mold✿ We live on the rainy side of the island, and it is damp, rainy, with very high humidity, which is typical for a tropical rainforest. Airborne molds are everywhere, and under these conditions, they thrive and multiply on this side of the island during the very wet months. While we can control it within the bungalow, we can not control it outside. Due to the open-air screened areas, airborne molds may be present (though not visible) in the Bungalow. Those with severe mold sensitivity issues should consider staying on the Kona side, where the climate is not as wet, damp, humid, and rainy. ✿Cats ✿ We currently have 10 cats. They are feral but we love them as our own and care for them. We ask that you do not feed them as we have established a feeding regime that keeps them useful and fed. Also, we ask that you drive on the roads and driveway to the bungalow with our cats in mind.

If you are a nature lover this is a great spot for you. Hosts are welcoming and had enough condiments and a welcome fruit as a nice gesture. Would recommend this for nature lovers. If you are into concrete jungles this may not be for you

We had fun at the Rainforest Bungalow! Summer and family were very warm and welcoming. Good communication before and during the trip. Be prepared for full outdoor sleeping camping vibe, with lots of interesting sounds of nature throughout the night, some quite loud. No solid windows and rustic feel. Within 5 minutes of an adorable zoo and 10-15 min of a Target for all you may need. A fun place for a few nights when visiting volcanos national park!

The Rainforest Bungalow was a great stay, conveniently located to everything you would like to do on the Hilo side of the island. Laura, Mike and Summer were wonderful hosts, quick to respond and work through any questions you may have. The bungalow itself is clean and adorable, stocked with things you may need and we loved the breakfast bar with a view of the tropical plants. We enjoyed the sounds of the frogs at night, and the little green geckos that visited. 100% would stay again!

Visited at the beginning of July for a 2-day trip to the big island with my honey and two young adult children. Hoped to see the lava flow at Volcano Park, but it dried up the day we arrived and picked this location thinking it was much closer. It was about 40 minutes from Volcano Park, but a beautiful drive through the land. The location is in a “tropical rainforest”, which you can learn about in one of the very thorough guide books created by the host (we so appreciated them). It’s in the same yard as the host’s house, but feels like your own little property with the surrounding foliage. It didn’t rain much while we were there, but definitely humid with mosquitoes, so be prepared for that. This place was extremely well stocked with all you may need for outings (ice chest, all types of beach gear, sunblock, etc.). We didn’t cook on the burner, but the refrigerator housed all of our sandwich supplies and drinks, although it was a pretty small fridge. Hosts were very kind and not intrusive. Frogs and all of nature’s sounds lulled us to sleep, we loved it, but there’s earplugs provided if needed. Grocery store and food places within 10 minutes. Hilo a short 15-20 minute drive and cute town (recommend Hilo Burger Joint and Two Ladies Kitchen for fresh mochi). I would not hesitate to stay here again.
