Staff in the restaurant and pool were great. The location is outside the main part of Funchal but has it's own selection of great restaurants and bars nearby. Pool looked lovely but we didn't try it as it wasn't sunny enough while we were there. Good selection of hot and cold breakfast options with made to order eggs (omelete, fried, scrambled etc).
If you book this via booking.com be aware that rooms with a sea view are in the sister hotel Quinta Da Penha di Mar, which is a bit awkward if you've arrived at the wrong one by car as the oneway system means you have quite a trek. If you want free pool towels, you need to put a cash deposit (€20pp) at the reception and receive a card to give to the pool attendant, we were not told or offered this at check-in. We had a seaview room with a balcony but it was the worst one in the hotel (rm 210). Comapred to all the other similar rooms, the balcony was small and solid brickwork up to 1.2m, so you couldn't see anything except the sky if you were sitting down. Other rooms had glass/trellis balustrades.

breakfast was good, staff friendly, onsite restaurant dinner was very good.
Google maps didn't take up to the entrance, extra instructions would have been handy. The system of borrowing pool towels was a bit of a pain. You had a to get a token and pay at deposit at reception which was quite a long way from the pool, which was through the grounds, over the road and down the lift.

Great view from the junior suite, looking at the ocean and pool, including a very nice large balcony.
The hotel is at a good location, next to the pier so a quick stroll down the promenade to the center of Funchal.
The breakfast was good, with an omelette station and a big ham to cut. Many cheeses and fresh fruits as well.
The room was clean!
The restaurant had weird hours, on Friday night a DJ was playing super loudly until 11pm (this is right below the suite so super loud), and yet on Sundays they don't do dinner service at all and instead have a half menu of burgers and sandwiches.
The pool could have been a bit warmer but made it work.
The coffee wasn't the best at breakfast.
The furniture and overall hotel seemed a bit dated and overall in need of upgrade. Not to be more modern, just less worn.
There is a second entrance and reception to the junior suite which can be confusing, think they should have explained that in the booking so we can order a cab to the right location.
